6. Tough call, but St . Dominic's Preview just might be my all time favorite album by Van the Man
Edited on Fri Mar-26-10 12:55 AM by abq e streeter
(unless it's Astral Weeks)...... coincidentally was having a conversation just last night, about the only time I ever saw him in person. 1975 ( Yeah I'm OLD --) with Little Feat opening. Amazing show...

3. Yes
So very true.

Incapable of a bad album it seems.

He keeps a tight lid on copyrights, so VM clips on Youtube are hard to come by. I've tried, believe me.

10. No joke. Every one I came across was a stupid cover.
I'll just have to put my CD in the player tonight. I can't think of one song of his that I don't like. He is butter.

5. I agree..sweeet Medicine!
Avalon Sunset got me through some very dark years..
Lots of Wisdom & Comfort in those songs..
& then some made me dance, despite my sadness & fear.
Somehow, I KNEW I'd get thru it, listening to This Old Soul.

14. If they are getting sick of Van, you need to boot them.
Who cares if they are your family. Van is Van!!!!! I mean, you'd boot them if they banned you from your Robert-poo, huh?

7. "... stoned me just like coming home"
I saw him in Edinburgh in '79, closing set was with the Chieftains. Bliss. Talking Heads were on the same bill - double bliss. Astral Weeks is my all-time favourite, wish I'd been able to see him perform it live a couple of years ago. If anything was the soundtrack of my youth, it was that album. It always brings me undone, it floods me with sweet melancholy. I want the title track played at my funeral ... "Lay me down, in silence easy ..." (I'll skip the "to be born again" though - once was quite enough.)

8. Van + J. Lee Hooker on Never Get Out of these Blues Alive is one of the awesomest awesome things
Not gonna waste time looking for a link.

My copy is on a Best of John Lee Hooker CD, which is something everyone should own.

22. I was on my daily "stress walk" a couple of days ago and outta nowhere started singing "Moondance."
I'd have to say that "Moondance" is my favorite, followed by a tie of "St. Dominic's Preview" and "Listen To The Lion," but I have an appreciation for pretty much everything he's done.

Then, of course, there's also "Mystic Eyes"...
