Ladies: Skinny jeans after 40?

I'm looking for the perfect pair of jeans and I can only buy one pair now. I'm bored of boot cut styles, and am looking at either straight leg or skinny leg jeans.

I'm slim, and can wear skinny and have them look good, but I'm also 40 and don't want to fall into the 'mutton dressed as lamb" syndrome. Don't want to dress too young for my age.

So what say you? Skinny jeans or no? Straight leg better?

and I wear them with no regard whatsoever for what others think. I _KNOW_ I feel and look good in faded 501s, a turtleneck, braided leather belt and nice boots -- sometimes paired with a scarf for a splash of color or a nice blazer if it's chilly.

That "mutton dressed as a lamb" thing is bullshit perpetuated by people who can't bear the thought of a woman who won't have her daily apparel dictated to her by strangers who don't live in her skin.

As for the "getting old", Corporate-Market-Based-System-America loves to throw us crones on the scrapheap because we've figured out we have nothing left to prove, and we're not buying into their game anymore. What is really in style over here this spring are light blue denim shirts, it's the "got to have it" item... comfy in size and worn outside of the jeans, unbuttoned. Pair that with a classic white t-shirt and ballerinas, and you're good to go.

Definitely not "mutton dressed as lamb", but simply stylish!

A friend of mine did some modeling when she was younger...and she's now in her early 40's and always looks fabulous.

She said the key to looking good when you are older is to not over do it.
when you are young you can show some leg, arms, bosom, ect...and get away with it, and can show a lot of skin/tight stuff and not look trashy if it's done the right way.

What she does now is...just pick ONE area to show off. If you've got tight jeans, then wear some good shoes to show to show off your rear end, but cover up the cleavage a bit more.
If you want to wear a short skirt, then cover up the arms. If you are going to wear a tight or sleeveless blouse and show your bosom, then play down the pants.
She always looks great, classy, but sexy...and still looks young.

I think women actually look older when they do too much, cuz it's LOOKS like you are trying to look younger, instead of just looking good.

I was recently persuaded that I should wear skinny jeans as I'm so tiny. Firstly, it was ridiculous as I always buy used jeans. I had to go to a real store! Blah. At 5'4" and 103 lbs, a size 0 didn't even fit right in the ass...a tad too baggy. It took me a few days to realize the problem...

I was blaming the cut of the jeans...the pocket, etc....all the brands were the same.
