1. It's VERY cool

I learned it decades ago on 4"X5" cameras in photography school. The shifts and tilts let you redefine the concept of perspective.

You can correct the "leaning away" effect of shooting tall buildings, and even "shift yourself" out of a straight-on mirror shot. And it allows you to CHOOSE an entire plane or line of scenery that you want to be in focus.

It's kind of hard to describe, but when our instructor told us what it did, I was amazed.

2. I broke the freaking lenses on my old Canon AE-1

I wonder if I could have used it to make shots like that

3. You could get attachments for the AE-1

I used to have an AE-1, too.

But to get the full effect of tilts, shifts and swings, you need a BIG camera, like a 4X5 with the bellows.

5. I had an older Calumet 4x5 view camera, with the entire setup -

It's REAL photography, but I am sure the setup will be pretty expensive these days - be prepared and look for used bargains where you can. Calumet cameras are built like a dump truck - everyone calls them a "work horse" with good reason-great reliable cameras.

A google search turns up a few home-made hacks for making cheap Tilt-Shift attachments.

I have been experimented with converting images in post-production with paint-shop pro. There are numerous tutorials for simulating tilt-shift in Photoshop.
