I'm serious. I've got things to carry. A backpack is too college. Messenger bags are too big. Fanny-packs are just strange not to mention that if you say 'fanny-pack' around your UK friends they will laugh themselves into a coronary. I drool over that purse insert organizer they've been advertising on tv. I want a purse, dammit!

It was a clutch style. Never got funny looks for it. A couple of people told me they thought it was a Bible, and they were afraid I was a preacher. Other than that, it's not a big deal. Look around, you'll see more men than you realize carrying them. And that's not counting briefcases, which are purses, anyway.

The "Jansport" style Daypack digs into my sholders giving me headaches,Messenger Bags like the ones the Dupont Circle Bicycle messengers use are too gaudy (I cant stand the Yellow and Chrome that they use) And...

13. I have had a carry-all for 20 years

but it's not that feminine monstrosity in the pic. It can be hand gripped and can fit a checkbook and phone easy. The strap is skinny but I only put it on when I want both hands free such as a mall or ballgame or when walking through heavy city foot traffic to avoid theft. My lady friends think its a metrosexual thing, but the core issue is I really HATE wallets and anything in pant pockets.

I used to work as a security guard at my city's civic center and I would have to scope out what women had in their purses as they came in to make sure they weren't bringing in any booze or anything. I would see woman come in with purses the size of a saddlebag and then tell me that they didn't have anything in them.

Well, they didn't quite have nothing, but most of them had enough in their purses that would enable them to survive for 3 days if they were trapped somewhere.

This is what guys do not understand since our wallets really become a part of us when women misplace their purses, saying "I don't know where I left it". We look at that like someone saying, "I've lost my hand and I don't know where I left it". To be honest, if I suddenly had a purse to carry I would puzzle about what I should put into it. That's why I have pockets.

Mostly for camera gear, but it also carries electronics, at times my passport, etc.

The straps are adjustable, so I can wear it over my shoulder, or as a waist/fanny pack. I've never had any untoward comments about it.

Look around at Patagonia, or North Face, or any other outdoor gear places for these sort of half-backpacks / "kidney bags" (b/c they're kidney-shaped but also tend to hit you at the kidneys when you wear them over your shoulder).

The picture is of a light blue one that looks kind of feminine but in black, or a similar style in a non-pastel color, it'd be good.

I wish my husband would carry one; I really don't like being the carry-all-person.

I also have a brother in law who uses something similar.

One of my closest friends in high school was named Fanny. Poor thing had no idea what was going on when she first went to London, whereupon she immediately started going by her middle name :)

although it's considered more acceptable in NYC, but I also carried one when I lived in Ohio. I guess I don't care what it looks like because it's useful. I've also used a backpack for years, but both because I ride a bike or scooter a lot, so it's handy to have a way to carry things.
