any gals here using copper UIDs?

im thinking about some long term, non-hormonal, non-barrier, birth control that i dont have to worry about forgetting to take that i can use while breast feeding. this seems to be the perfect option for me.

im just trying to get opinions.

Depending on how long you have one of these things, it may cause scarring.

got pregnant, or atleast fairly sure i did, using diaphragm. boy doesnt really like condoms.

we are monogamous and any other person we would be involved with would be tested and barriers would be used. but right now its just us.

more children is possible in the future and i dont think id have it in for the 12 years its good for.

i might just go on progestin-only bc but i hate taking hormones, and am not good at remembering to take things. i can hardly remember to take my prenatal vitamins.

If you're in a monogamous relationship, I'd suggest vasectomy. It's quick, easy, and makes life a whole lot less complicated for women!

react with her body to make her smell not so good there. Not that
i smelled that much, but you know.

It worked great, no complaints. If you like cunilingus, perhaps
barrier methods will get you more of what you like... :-)

9. Copper poisoning?

The smell was a distinct body reaction with the copper. I remember
at the time realizing how intense the body reaction was with the
copper. Acidopholus fixes that? I'd be suprised. I'd bet that
taking the copper IUD out would fix it in a jiffy.

The very thing that makes it such a good contraceptive makes it
a good repellant. :-)

i wouldnt have to pay for it. the copper affects the uterine lining preventing pregnancy but does not use hormones to do it.

10. I used to have one

For the most part, I liked it especially because there's no hormones to not interfere with breastfeeding, sex drive, or anything else. If you end up not getting it, Micronor, a progestin only pill is okay to use while breastfeeding. Basically, I liked it but, I did find two negatives: 1)It does increase cramping and bleeding during periods, but if you breastfeed and breastfeed frequently, it should keep your periods away a year or more (at least 6 months). If you don't have bad periods to begin with, this shouldn't be too terrible of a side effect. 2)This next issue was more of a problem for my husband. Make sure they trim the end of the IUD that sticks out of your cervix as short as possible. Not to get too graphic here, but I tend to be a bit, um, smallish, so sometimes the IUD poked him during sex, but that might not be a problem for everyone.

Oh, you meant IUD. I thought we were talking about ways to identify users on a Cat-5 network.

Anyway, the IUD's have been improved tremendously since the days of the Dalkon Shield. I personally, am a big fan of my birth-control method. (I had a tubal.)
