Your best bosses?
I've had three "good" bosses in my life.

1-My manager when I worked seafood during my first year of college, was just and excellent person and boss. He was the kind of boss that stood up for you to his bosses, was good at giving directions, didn't mind (and I mean sincerely didn't mind) hearing criticisms. I loved working for that guy because you didn't work for him, you worked with him.

2-My first boss ever. Scariest motherfucker alive, big Japanese guy with a cold stare, used to throw pans that weren't cleaned properly right at you. But after a while I learned it was all in good fun. And no matter what after every shift you got a free dinner at the resaraunt, and it was no Denny's it was an award winning seafood restraunt...you could even eat lobster if you wanted, he didn't care, just don't complain when he throws a fork at you and calls you a low life scumm sucking sun of a bitch. But he was always TO THE POINT> And loved to bullshit. I still go in the resaraunt to visit sometimes.

3-My current boss, despite the recent problems, in years past she has been an amazing person to work for. Very understanding, honest, patient. And she likes how my smartassing wakes everyone up in the morning. Plus she has hired me back three seasons in a row, and always is nice about my leaving early.

those are mine the rest have been sub-par. Yours?

1. Oddly most of my bosses where good.
I dont think ive had a real real bad one....yet.

One of my favorites was this good old boy wheeler-dealer...sort of a combination between JR Ewing and Boss Hogg...he was a native Texan and an A&M alum. You would think I wouldnt get along w. him but I really did...he was alot of fun, and let me do my own thing w. minimum interference.

2. When I was in the Army, working for Battalion Operations,
the S-3 Sergeant Major was my supervisor. He was kind, friendly and had a great sense of humor. He was down to Earth, even calling me "buddy." Lots of Sergeants Major are too in love with the stripes on their collar to be a caring mentor to a green trooper like me. He was the best boss I've ever had.
I have to admit my attitude wasn't the best at the time. I was just out of tanker school and was raring to be assigned to a tank company. I got assigned to Ops instead, and didn't behave as professionally as I should have. I wish I had been a better soldier to the SGM. He deserved my utmost.

3. 2 Or 3
They all had attitudes but were never afraid to explain in detail how they wanted their job done...including climbing a telephone pole 30' in the air with the same tools I was expected to carry.

That's my standard.

4. As a serviceman in the late 1990's...
I worked for Bill Clinton!

(Matches my answer for the worst boss a few weeks back...G. W. Bush!)

Elect me and my fellow servicemen a better boss in '04!
(Wait, you did that in '00...and it didn't take)

5. Last boss let me fly to Scotland to say goodbye to people I'd worked with
When I left my last job in Nov 2002 I'd be based in London but working with a group of people up in Scotland too. I'd gone up there about 8 times, and when I came to leave my job my boss let me fly back up there and take a few of them out for dinner, all on the company!

Top guy!

Of course he came along as well, but that's only fair!

P.
