an elderly woman who lived a few miles away passed recently and the family decided to just estate sale everything and then sell the house.
Granny had a taste for good silverware :toast: :fistbump:
We got a set that started as a 100 odd piece set of 1940's communityware sterling...but...granny liked her silverware.Tucked into the now over 150 piece set were 8 solid silver united pieces and some solid silver rogers pieces all in a VERY well built cherry wood silverware box.
the price we got it for?......$20
i win :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I have a friend who goes to estate sales.
She finds great stuff like that.
The kids just want to get rid of stuff without looking at it, I don't get it.
The stuff can always be stored for awhile.
I need to start going again myself.

the box itself costs 175 bucks to buy at an antique silverware site.
we got what turns out to be two matching 4 piece sets of united silver circa 1947...each set sells for $445 at same site.
the over 100 piece original set has a replacement costs per piece depending on what it is of 14 to 25 bucks per piece. It's a rogers brothers set that was started in 1944 and discontinued in 1950
i love granny O8)
ETA: haven't found the exact rogers silver pieces yet so it only gets better

2. That's awesome! I love estate sales. |

In some circles, $20.00 wouldn't even buy ONE utensil.

6. Estate sales rule for tools! |
|
Especially precision stuff - Starret stuff, lightly rusted, 3% of new price.
