Romanians solve vampire troubles
MAROTINU DE SUS, Romania -- Before Toma Petre's relatives pulled his body from the grave, ripped out his heart, burned it to ashes, mixed it with water and drank it, he hadn't been in the news much.

That's often the way with vampires in Romania. Quiet lives, active deaths.

Villagers aren't up in arms about the undead -- they're pretty common -- but they are outraged that the police are involved in a simple vampire slaying.

"What did we do?" pleaded Flora Marinescu, Petre's sister and the wife

1. Its kinda backwards there still
Our company is doing a job in Bucharest right now, and the place is
very funny. On one hand, it aspires to joining the EU, but has a
minor issue of not really a market economy.... lotsa bribes and
crony crap.

Given the horse carts in central bucharest sharing lanes with taxis
and cars.. its no suprise at all that a few miles out, is really
a place where supersitition thrives. Have you seen "cold mountain".
It was filmed there. You can tell, as there is a scene in a mountain
hut in the film, where the walls of the hut are made by woven
branches between poles... something i've only seen in romania and
subsaharan africa.

Apparently they filmed there because there are no power lines or any
symbols of "modernism" that they could easily portray a civil war (american) time period.

The story is, i'm sure, quite true. Its a lovely country. Perhaps
you should investigate yourself. Its cheap as hell.. cheaper than
India... 40 buck will buy you dinner for 5 people with wine and all
fixings... !

2. Cheaper than India?
Don't tell the CEOs!

Did you see the film "The Oak" (1993)
It's really dark but good
I think it was made right after
Ceausescu was overthrown.

3. The CEO's already know
Thats why they're outsourcing to romania. You can get a premium
software engineer for 300 euros per month (500 dollars per month).
Who can compete with that discount? It is a haven for european
offshoring where india is seen as "too far".
