What IS it with my mother?

Every time I call her, she spends the whole conversation complaining that I never call her.

So help me God, I am never going to do that to my children.

:) I avoided most of the mistakes my parents made, and my kids still find things to complain about. So I tell them, "You kids don't know how lucky you are. When I was your..." and I stop talking and go cry at the absurdity and futility of life. :rofl:

7. Yeah, I hear ya

With my mom, I hate to call her, cause her husband never lets her answer the phone, the controlling teabagger nutjob. So she calls me, and whenever I miss the call, she spends the entire time - OK, maybe not the WHOLE time, but it seems like it - telling me that she tried to call me at thus-and-such time, and I didn't answer, and so where was I?, and she wanted to tell me something then, but I didn't answer, and by the way, where was I?, cause she would have told me about this or that thing, but I didn't answer, and where was I anyway? - and on and on. I'm practically vapor-locking by the time she gets to telling me what she was going to tell me what she called me about. . . I love my mom to death, but my word, it can be an ordeal talking to her.

I agree with you, I will never do that to my kids. But really, I should call HER more often.

I never had children so I figured I'd never 'become' my mother. HAH! I find myself using her phrases and arguments on the dogs. They'll be standing in the door - half in, half out holding the door open - and I'll look at them and say "In or out, Dammit! What were you? Born in a barn?"

Then, I just shake my head at myself, because I know at least two of them were born in a barn. (The third was a Humane Society rescue, but the other two mutts were, in fact, born in farmers' barns.)

So, yeah, you will 'become' your mother. Even if you don't have kids.

But they do. And they make my day when they do.

I was striving to raise adults...not guilt-ridden overly tall-toddlers.
