Here it is, 1:20 a.m. (local time), and I'm wide awake. I took my sleepy-time medicine at 12:30, which usually has me sawing logs by 1:00 a.m., but not tonight! Will I get sleepy soon? In a half hour? Hour? Two hours? Not at all? I don't know!

Luckily I'm unemployed so I don't have to get up early. Although, as a freelance writer, I still have to work -- sort of.

Sound off if the sandman has told you to piss off!

3. That sucks

The worst thing is, instead of getting sleepy, I find I'm getting more alert and more awake. So, I guess I'm getting my "second wind" or whatever.

Damn you not-working ambien!

I don't know if I'll be up until 3:20, though. Sorry about that, man, I hope you get some zzzs tonight, even if it's a few hours.

7. OK 4:33 - No idea when I'll sleep

Unemployed as well, so no need to get up early.

And no cable. Got Judge Mathis going on the tv.

I've been on the net all damned day and night.

And I'm not sleepy. My brain's tired, and I'm bored as hell, but not sleepy.

I'll probably try to stay awake all day and maybe crash at ten or so tonight (Fri.).

8. You know...a writer writes

I've been writing a column that's been published here at DU and the Smirking Chimp web site for the last several weeks. The idea is to get enough material published that I can present it to a newspaper, magazine, or syndicator. Which means I'm not getting paid, just the exposure. The exposure at Smirking Chimp has been surprising, the last time they ran one of my columns, it was the most read item of the day.

My column runs here at DU usually on Tuesday or Wednesday, written under my name, Scott C. Smith.

I also write articles for my web site, and you'll find a link to it in my sig.

9. I've developed a bad habit

- of coming straight to the DU forums without even visiting the front page. A habit I just broke by changing my DU shortcut to point to the home page rather than straight to the forums.

Read your latest DU column - good work slicing Jimmy Olsen to bits over his Kerry fetish. How embarrassing it must be to break a ***WORLD WIDE EXCLUSIVE*** only to have it be shown as just another empty warhead. I'll be checking out your DU columns and your site more often.

Spread the word! Tell the world! Usually I'll link to the article from my web site since I need the exposure. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get enough people to send me hate mail. Those are always funny to get.
