I was working part-time at a five and dime, my boss was Mr. McGee
He told me several times that he didn't like my kind
Because I was just too leisurely

It seems that I was busy doing something close to nothing
But different than the day before

But that's when I saw her
Oooooh, I saw her
She walked in through the out door
Out door
Out door

She wore a raspberry beret
The kind you find in a second hand store
A raspberry beret
If it was warm she wouldn't wear much more

<Magic Rat dances around his now-deserted office>

:D

YAY FRIDAY!

1. An Austin band called The Derailers covered that tune...
...think Buck Owens-style country version of that song. It is AWESOME. It wasn't even listed on the cd track list. If I hadn't been driving and unable to stop the cd player, I might not have heard it.

3. Speaking of Prince covers...
The Asylum Street Spankers (another awesome Austin group) have done rather unusual covers of 1999 and Darling Nikki.

They also do a really fun cover of the B-52s' Dance This Mess Around.

Check them out sometime. They're in Houston tonight, at the Mucky Duck, then next week in PA. I've been impatiently waiting.

2. The Minnesota connection
At last I see the connection between Dylan and Prince.

Some of that could be straight out of "Tangled Up in Blue."

4. "She wore a Greeeeeen Beret...
the kind you find in the Vietnam War."

That's what a friend of mine used to sing jokingly when this song first came out.

Whenever I hear the song I always think of his version... :-)
