I haven't had a beer in 26 years...
But I have to wonder, is there an inverse relationship between the "wackiness" of lite "beer" commercials and the taste of such "beer?"

I remember lite beer as being practically tasteless. In fact, I did an experiment and drank about 12 lite beers one night and you know what, they didn't get better as the night wore on. In fact there was a nasty after taste that lasted all the way until the next morning when I woke up in a girls dorm laundry room floor dressed in a long cotton night gown with curlers in my hair, but that is another story.

I have to ask, why not just drink one or two less beers and drink something that tastes good?

5. Not having money to go out and have a beer, that has pissing me off also.
Edited on Wed Jun-09-10 10:41 PM by RandomThoughts
Maybe a weakness, but lack of resources to go out and have beer, does piss me off a bit, that is one of the things that is going to change.

As far as taste of beer, I like many types of beer.

6. I don't drink....
beer. So I couldn't tell you.

But I've never liked the taste of any beer that I did drink (when we'd grab my dad's can in the house). I think it's one of the reasons I don't drink at all, because the smell of cigarettes with a beer is just too nasty.

BTW, I don't know if you were/are celebrating your non-drinking status, but if you are, congratulations!

7. I only drink real beer.
Edited on Wed Jun-09-10 10:46 PM by backscatter712
Microbrews count, European beers count. American light dishwater beers don't count.

Sad commentary on the economy: Pabst Blue Ribbon seems to be getting very popular as of late - I guess people in poverty will resort to drinking cheap dishwater...

The last time I drank PBR was when it was inflicted upon me in a game of beer pong...

9. I haven't had a beer in forever
and I used to drink daily.

"I like the little things. The way a glass feels in your hand, a good glass - thick, with a heavy base. I love the sound an ice cube makes when you drop it from just the right height. Too high, and it will chip when you drop it. Chip the ice and it will melt too fast in the Scotch..."

"You had a drink?!"

"I'm an alcoholic. I don't have one drink. I don't understand people who have one drink. I don't understand people who leave half a glass of wine on the table. I don't understand people who say they've had enough. How can you have enough of feeling like this? How can you not want to feel like this longer? My brain works differently."

10. There are some low-calorie beers which aren't too bad.
But none of the big-brewery beers qualifies. IMHO, screw that lite thing; have a Fat Tire.

Now that's a real beer.

12. Lived in Germany for years...
.
.
...and they had some FINE mass-produced beers, although what they export
to this country has to be pasteurized (I THINK it's pasteurization) for health
code reasons and has a bitter aftertaste for me (there were some that really
really sucked in-country, too.)
.
We got the same Heineken in Germany that we get in this country -- the
export kind. We had beer-vending machines in some of the barracks. The
German beers would usually go first, followed by the American choices...
and the Heineken would only be chosen if that goddamm beer delivery guy
was taking his goddam time getting us some more DECENT goddam beer.
.
Having known fine beer, I do think there's a LOT of beer-snobbery going
on -- much of what is called by some pisswater is actually quite tasty.
.
Having known fine beer, I still liked Miller Lite when I returned, though
some of the other light beers DID taste watered-down.
.
The BEST beer I've had in this country was from a microbrewery in Moab,
UT (Eddie McStiff's) -- blueberries were one of the ingredients. Although
not fruity in taste at ALL, it was the freshest, most vibrant and, let's
face it, DRINKABLE beer ever.
.
Closest to that from a mass-produced American beer -- best I've ever
had anywhere?
.
Miller LIGHT (not Lite) in a bottle. Much better than the beers lauded
by those who don't realize that it's simply aesthetics and differing
tastes in individuals more than the beers themselves (for the most part).
.

16. Grolsch is not bad
A mass-produced Dutch beer, seems to me to taste like German beer, and it tastes good "cool" as opposed to "ice cold".

Prost!

13. I buy a six pack of
Sierra Nevada, Two-Hearted Ale or Stones IPA and it will last two weeks. Maybe two or three glasses of wine in the same time. I just feel better and more energetic if I don't drink anymore than that.

15. I haven't had one in over 22 years....I am assuming that-like everything else-
the quality has gone severely downhill while the price has gone up. I drank beer over a long enough period to note the decline in taste and quality...it was no too hard to give it up.

17. american beer tastes like pissy water.Lite Beer tastes like watery piss
I never enjoyed Beer until I discovered Belgium style and other imports that have actual flavors and a decent alcohol content. Two or three of those will do just fine and not taste like acidic piss.

19. Begging your pardon, that only applies to the mass-produced beers.
Some of these microbrews are absolutely amazing. Like anything else, you can go to the store and buy cheap beer or you can buy good beer. The only way to get cheap beer and good beer is to purchase both. And some imports are absolute trash, too.

A good rule, I think, to figure out which beers will suck is to look how many commercials they run. The more commercials, the lousier the beer! Don't call them American beers; call them corporate beers. Corporate beer sucks; some American beer is terrific.

25. Very true about the quality of microbrews.
Two years ago I went to the Oregon Brewers Festival in Portland. Probably 200 microbrews from the Northwest available to taste. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

22. Until about 3 years ago I went 32 years without drinking.
It was back in 1975 and I sicker than a dog after drinking, having the dry heaves that I said, "God, please make me well and I'll never drink again". I got well and I figured a deal was a deal and it did last 32 years.

It was beer that shattered my up until then cast iron stomach. I could down shots and mixed drinks, but I couldn't handle beer. I never had a hangover or got sick after drinking until I drank beer.

I still don't really drink now. If I do it is a flavored malt liquor because I just don't like the taste of alcohol. I absolutely cannot stand to drink beer at all.

27. Until about 10 months ago I went 19 years without drinking.
I don't drink to get a buzz - I just like the taste of beer. A 6 pack will last me about a week. Back in the day, I drank to get drunk and a 6 pack wouldn't last 2 hours.

A Bud Light Lime fresh from a bucket of ice is pretty nice.

24. Congratulations, WCGreen!
I'm also a recovering alcoholic and it's been so long I really don't remember what beer tastes like, except that I always thought it was bitter. The best beer in the world is Guiness, because it actually has a taste! I was a wino, so I used to wonder why people bothered drinking beer at all when they could partake of the grape. An even bigger mystery to me was why people, sitting at a restaurant table, would actually get up and leave, leaving a barely sipped drink behind. I thought of it as a complete waste and an insult to those who wanted alcohol but had none. ;-)

I'm a woman, so Lite beer was always my choice. I was on a constant diet during my youth.
