I've been to strip clubs, yet hate Hooters (will never go to one)
Is that wierd?

There's something about combining the occupation of food servers with sex, and eating greasy food with sex, that just bugs me, creeps me hell out...plus the colors, all that orange - it makes me want to puke...

I even find Hooters more exploitative of women than a strip club. Strippers are there to strip. Yet Hooters is like a sexist creep into places that should be free of such overt sexualization of women.

I haven't been to strip club in years, but it is probable that I will go again to one at some point. But I've never been to a Hooters and never wanted to.

Is this contradictory?

1. Not weird at all
Hooters sucks. Lousy food, and frankly, it's not tittilating. A strip club (whether you're for or against them) serves a purpose. Hooters PRETENDS to serve that purpose without doing it.

3. I think they have good food
But I don't find the chicks all that sizzling. Better at a strip club for that purpose.

5. HaHa
I have a friend from Gainesville and those places are legendary according to him. Egg on the plate and ***** in the face was how he described them to me. Quite an odd combination.

Cheese all over the hash browns, great burger patty and eggs. Be still my beating heart. :)

7. a place like that would be better than a hooters - it's the family
friendly corporatization of it that really gets me...

16. My God! Someone knows about Cafe Risque!
It was an old Stuckey's, when somebody said figured out that naked women serving bacon and eggs might be even more fun for the truckers along I-75...took a friend of mine from Indiana there...he now thinks the cutting edge of true entertainment is in Waldo, Florida.

4. I feel the same way
I was in a hooters once in Baton Rouge and I found the whole experience to be really bizarre (I was also baked out of my skull so that couldn't have helped). Hooters everything is all hidden under this weird veneer of "family restaurant environment". A strip club is a strip club and everyone in there knows this. At least its honest.

6. bingo - you got what I was getting at, also it's like that Seinfeld
episode where George tries to eat a sandwich and watch a baseball game while having sex - and Jerry says something like - "ewww, you've combined sex and eating into one all purpose disgusting urge."

8. you're probably right
There are some people who hate women and have to have the orange shorts over their butts while they're jerking off under their menus and others who want nakedy women rubbing off their nakedy butts on their pants. It's all about choice. I agree, I notice that the one friend I have who prefers Playboy (it doesn't show pink) over the more hard-core stuff has serious issues with women. Anecdotal, sure, but it makes me stop and think.

10. There is are a lot of things hidden there..
well sort of..

My sister used to work their. Hooters normally has super high tables thus putting their patron just at the right height while talking to their sever. Or low tables thus making the server bend over to take their order... just really really sneaky, and frankly blantly sexist.

Their food is not all that great... their wings are just plain awful. (buffalo native here....)

11. Hooters is cheap
It's so fake it's sickening. I think some people must be really sad to be turned on by the weak PG-13 sexual innuendo that they pull off at Hooters.

As for me, Hooters food sux and so I don't go there. That simple. When I want porn, I go online or go to the AVW down the street.

Edited on Fri Mar-26-04 10:59 PM by mitchum
Well, as far as ever playing there again :) Apparently, there was drunkennesss and profanity on my part. It's freakin' Hooter's, for god's sake!
A horrible place. Made for letches without the courage of their lechery.

17. You're banned FOR LIFE?
Was it the signature of a noted tough guy, or the kitty cat icon...a man (woman?) of contrasts for sure...

14. I went a few weeks ago
I wanted to see what the fuss was all about.

The food was very average, IMO. The cheeseburger and fries weren't awful, but it was nothing to write home about.

Overall, it was an awkward experience. I think had I went with a few friends, it would have been more comfortable. It's really tough to know how to act. Like you said, it's not a strip club. However, if they wear those risque outfits, the management obviously wants you to look at the waitresses.

I don't think I'd go back. There's too many other restaurants that have better food. When I go to restaurants, my primary focus is the food. I guess if I was hanging out and drinking beers, it might be a better experience. I just don't think it's a place to go if you want fine dining.

Also, I think the owl from the Hooters logo may have some hidden meaning. :)

18. I agree. Hooters is way more exploitive
and hypocritical. And the food is worse than the food in the strip clubs where I've actually tried the food.

I love strip clubs by the way.

But Hooters? Yeah, it kind of disgusts me. I think it degrades women, whereas in a strip club the women have all the power.

Women are VERY powerful in strip clubs.

19. gay and getting a lapdance in Oklahoma City.
Edited on Sat Mar-27-04 01:12 AM by Waverley_Hills_Hiker
I was never in a strip joint before until these miltary guys dragged me to this sleazy strip club in OKC. (well the suburbs). I am gay, in the closet, so it was sort of freaky. The girl who was giving me the lapdance flashed on that I was gay right away....she whispered that to me..."yer gay aint ya"....and proceded to give me this fantastic lapdance. The miltiary guys where freaked by it...."Man she really did a good one for you dude..."......

...so, strange shit....for me at least.

on edit:

Oh..this is supposed to be about Hooters...well.,..never been to one.
