What's your dream job?
Edited on Sat Mar-27-04 04:38 PM by Mass_Liberal
Mine is professional poker player. That's prob. because I haven't tried it yet. I've heard that poker is no fun when it's just a job.

What's your dream job?

3. something outside
Damn near anything outside. I wouldn't mind being a National Park Service ranger. I'd try to get posted in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, or the Grand Canyon, or -- hell, I'll take anywhere. Just get me OUTSIDE!

7. After Selection 2000...
...the answer in 5/9ths of the cases is yes!

My wife and I are tired of having someone else control our "incomes", so we're striking out on our own. The only alternative is continued financial destitution and the need to rely on grants and loans to pay for our son's college and on McDonald's or walmart for our retirement. No Thank You!

Edited on Sat Mar-27-04 04:58 PM by amazona
...but for most folks striking out on their own is the fast track to lifelong poverty. I know whereof I speak -- self-employed 20-plus years, connected to lots of self-employeds. Most never break five figures annual income. A great many actually lose money. And, when you reach your forties, good luck getting health insurance.

Turn back now, it's a dead end. I wish I had known what the future held when I started down this path. There is only room for self-employeds to make decent incomes in a healthy, usually growing economy.

Many things my self-employed friends used to do such as medical transcriptionists are dead because of outsourcing.

I hope you have better luck but I sure wouldn't bet my child's future on it.

There is a reason jobs with large corporations are valued, and it isn't because of the managers' warmth, charm, or personality.

30. Exactly...
Edited on Mon Mar-29-04 07:11 AM by MarianJack
...what is the point of that insult? I see nothing in my desire for my wife and I to have our own business that would connect me to that sexual harrassing slime!

The 5/9th remark is an insult to those 5 "justices" who installed this misadministration! You know, as in their lack of dignity for their votes!

13. Employment Law Attorney
Having my own company, consulting other companies on ADA, FMLA, AA/EEO, and training for workplace mediation.

I'll be 36 next month, so in a lot of ways, I feel quite old to be even entertaining the thought. The average age at UNM School of Law is 25.

15. I have occasionally thought about law
And this is the branch of law that I'd like to be in. We don't have the money for me to go to law school and both sets of grandparents think that lawyers are evil. Becoming a lawyer would be like if I had a white supremicist Fundie family and I announced that I would be going to Canada (or San Francisco) to marry my black girlfriend. I'm not kidding.

20. I kinda of sorta have it
I am a sports writer. I have always dreamed of being a writer. However, I want to go beyond sports possibly work at Entertainment Weekly or at a mag/newspaper where I could write opinion pieces. I would also like to be a screenwriter. But writing in any form will do.

21. I had a friend once who was a Mathematician.
He is a Dean now at a prestigous university. He always said the only think worthwhile in his life was his work. His personal life really sucked, I have to admit. But he is the only person I knew who loved his work. Even if it is something you love and are trained for, usually there is the mundane aspect that goes with the territory. But I guess that's why we need vacations.
