Is there a way to make Real Audio NOT the default player?
I have a web media player that is much more "user friendly" than Real Player, called Jet Audio. I have to keep Real PLayer on my computer, because Jet Audio and embeded web players use it to operate.

However, I try to avoid using the Real Player itself because it is so slow and clunky, and intrusive. One of the ways it is instrusive is that it keeps overriding any request to make another audio player as the default for RA files. So when I want to hear a link from a webpage my computer continues to insist on opening up thatr litle monster.

I've figured out way around it, like dragging and dropping links from webpages into Jet Audio, and putting the streams I listen to most on the playlist.

However, those are awkward.

My question is: Do you know of a way to make anoher player the default one, so that links will use the alternative instead of opening the whole Real PLayer shebang?

1. Some things to try

I'm still having certain problems with RealPlayer myself, but if you haven't already done all these things, you might try them:

1 - First go into RealPlayer and uncheck all file type associations.

2 - Then go into your preferred player and tell it to be the default player for .ram and related associations.

3 - Go into your browser's mime-types and tell it to use your preferred player to open .ram files.

2. The only way...
The only way to completely stop this menace is to uninstall it and delete any remnants left behind.

3. It's not necessary to be quite that drastic
If you uninstall Real Player and everything associated with it, you won't be able to play .ram and .ra files.

However, it is possible to uninstall the player while keeping the necessary codecs. I haven't done that myself, though I may get there. It's possible to find instructions for it through Google groups.
