How affectionate is/are your cat/cats?
I think I have the most affectionate cats, myself.

Lucky, my b/w female, will follow me around, rubbing my legs and licking my feet, "Purr purr purr," and just adores head scritches.

Charlotte, my calico female loves to curl up in my lap, purring away, does the head smoosh and likes to lick my nose.

1. They are relentlessly friendly.
All three of them want to be wherever I am most of the time. They follow me around like puppies, greet me at the door, sleep with me, talk to me, and generally adore me. Milo will launch himself at my torso so I have to carry him around and pet him, and he howls mournfully at the door every morning when I leave for work. I always have to tell him I love him and I'll be back soon or he just keeps howling. Jeoffry just *has* to sleep behind my knees every night. And Pixie likes to jump up and nuzzle me before she curls up at the foot of the bed.

I totally love them.

2. Lap cats when they want to be...
One of them is meowing for seconds as I type this.

3. My 3 are 3 different personalities
KC is a 5 year old maine coon. He is a gentle giant, the sweetest nicest cat I have ever owned. He's never bitten or scratched anyone, just a sweetheart.

Shalem is an 15 year old who keeps to herself, but she always wants to be petted.

Lucky is the baby. She is 10 weeks old persian. She is very rambumcious, is either playing or sleeping. She is not yet into being too affectionate, she wont sit still long enough to pet her ha. I feel that as she gets older she will be more affectionate. They all get along quite well, a small family, it's neat to watch them interact.

4. Each has their own personality.
Mischief likes to be in the same room as me and sometimes climbs on my lap.

DeeDee is kind of laid back and loves to lay on me for half the night then she wants her alone time on top of the freezer.

Chatter is content to be petted a couple of times a day and isn't too demanding.

Grendel rises out of his daily meditation of looking like a stuffed turkey on the cat tower and comes out of his haze to demand I pet him RIGHT THIS SECOND (then he nips at me and goes back to contemplating his navel or whatever).

Nugget on the other hand is so damned affectionate that it can be slightly annoying because he apparently has restless cat syndrome and cannot lay still for for more than a second or two without changing positions while simultaneously trying to crawl into my mouth while kneading my stomach.

5. All 6 are affectionate in different ways
All on their own terms, of course. Shadow must never have been socialized well, she is friendly with no one but visiting males, or my son, who is home for the summer from college - she just has never gotten along with women, alas, tolerates me, but, well . . . Kimi, my female Norwegian Forest Cat, is very sweet, and very food-oriented, and will talk to me forever about all sorts of things, very philosophical. Her brother Loki is also food-centric, is a huge 22-pounder, and will plop his big old furry self next to me whenever he wants a relaxing nap-time. Mitts is a rescued stray, and will come running at the first sound of trouble, he's very comforting in times of stress and I adore him for that, the older he gets the more love he wants and gets. Bear is my reformed feral, still a little stand-offish, but I'll wake up sometimes to find him a few inches from my face carefully studying me and purring happily, the big old ear-tipped lunk. And then Mr Wiggles, the other taken-in stray, is unabashedly affectionate, will jump up and snuggle into me, looking up at me and purring as though I were the best thing since sliced bread.

Ah, I love em. Cats - and some people actually think they don't show affection?! Nonsense!!

22. Cats need better PR.
The dog people are obnoxious about their preference. We get stuck with all the dog movies for kids and the anti-cat movies where dogs are the heroes and cats are cruel and plotting. I'm sick of it.

6. Mr. Mickey might give your sweeties a challenge!
Now that we're down to 2 cats, it's MM and his sister, Mallory sop up all our love daily. They are brother and sister and Mallory is quite afraid most of the time (we think she might have been a bit brain damaged from all of the fleas sucking blood and a few seizures when someone found them as abandoned kittens. MM was always protective of Mal, but he can also be a little aggressive with her sometimes (boy kittens will be bad-boy kittens).

Mickey is fond of staring, playing soccer with crumpled budgets..... and purrs warp factor 9 at times... then straddles across your belly while enjoying all three until he decides it's time to go lay across your feet. One more thing... he loves to be vacuumed (I do this very carefully, including a heat scratch). Sometimes it's just the way he looks up at you that does it.

He's my pal.

7. Mine is coming around.
Used to not like to be touched, at all. Tonight, I stroked her chin, face, back, tummy - she just laid back and let me.

When I first got this girl, a year after my wonderful other cat passed (male tux, he would let me carry him around the house), she was very standoffish, for the longest time. Don't blame her, though, she spent most of her kitten years in a cage with dogs roaming around. After she was found under a porch.

But now, she's coming around. Still doesn't curl up next to me on the couch, but latelyl when I wake up in bed, she's all snuggled up against me.

She's some kind of huntress. Her fave thing is to sit in the garage and wait for any poor bug that dares to scurry in through the cracks. Loves to jump onto tables, counter tops, chair tops. Very vocal, unlike my last one, who could barely get out a meow (usually just a "ack" sound while he mouthed a meow).

Still haven't named her, but she is coming around in the affection department.

13. she sounds like my cat
She was a stray and she kept her distance for a long time. Now I wake up in the morning and she is smashed against me. She also kneads my face in the middle of the night.
I like the challenge and appreciate that her hunting skills have taken care of the mouse problem in four yards.

9. they only want me for the cat food
otherwise they sleep the day away -- and I am useless to them.

They LOVE ME at dinner time.

When it's time for bed they all three come "see me". That's when they want attention, when they know they have me cornered.

10. I raised my from two weeks old, so he was socialized very early and is SUPER affectionate.
Nothing would make him happier than if I were to carry him around in a baby snuggling (not that I do), he loves attention that much. He loves hugs and kisses and belly rubs. If I am busy and don't pet him immediately upon request, he will grab my hand with both paws and put it on his own head. Cracks me up every time.

12. My cat strayed into my life
when she was 2 - so she was "as is."
She must have taken care of herself for some time because she is a dedicated jungle cruiser and has been not very affectionate, though she sleeps inside at night.

Things are starting to change a bit recently. She seems to have an overwhelming need to start kneading my face and purring when I am sleeping. I think that is affection?? Or maybe she is trying to kill me.

14. Suspiciously seasonal.
Can't get enough of cuddling in the winter. Won't come near people in the summer. They also love to lie just out of arm's reach and cry for you to pet them. As you move closer, they move a little further away as if to say "If you really loved me, you would dislocate your shoulder to pet me."

15. All six like to cuddle but two of them check in with me at least once a day
by tapping on my face with their paw. It's very specific, the kitty equivalent of someone tapping you on the shoulder. "Look at me, attention please, show me how great I am, I mean YOU." And it pleases me very much because these were the two shy rescues. lol

17. I have 2 lap cats
Edited on Tue Jul-20-10 09:25 AM by meow2u3
Which isn't so bad unless one of your cats weighs 16 pounds!

Ruby, the mom, who is going to be 4 on the 29th, likes to lie right on top of me while I'm sleeping--and so does Max, the "kitten"--and he's the big one, so when he jumps on my lap, it hurts!

They also like to purr, be petted, and picked up. It's tough to carry around a big baby like Max!

18. My kitty can be affectionate, but not very often and she picks the time.
If she's in the mood, she will get in my lap and make herself available for attention, but she's pretty low key about it. Very seldom does she do any head butting or trying to push her nose under your hand, she's just there and if you feel like petting her, she seems to enjoy it. When I get home from work, she greets me and I pet her a few times and she's fine with that. If she isn't in the mood, she simply walks away while you are petting her. Under no circumstances are you allowed to touch her belly. She just isn't much of a cuddler.

19. They reached their natural ends ages ago, so not very.
When they were around, the mentally challenged cat tried to lay on my feet while I was walking. The other was a permanent attachment on my sister's shoulder.

20. Our going on 15 yo cat, Simba, is extremely affectionate. He'll come up
to strangers, people in the door for the first time, and ask to be petted. He wants to jump
in hubby's lap the minute he sits down to read the paper. At night, when we go to bed, he comes
from wherever he is in the house and jumps in bed with us and curls right up to one or the other of us.

He was always affectionate, but he has become even more so since his brother, Mouse, died last year.
The two of them were best buddies: slept together, groomed each other, and pretended to fight each other.
Simba clearly misses our old Mousie.

24. I have two that I have raised from kittens.
They are now both two years old. They are very, very affectionate. Most of the time it is very difficult for me to lay down or just sit in a chair without an instant cat blanket.

My husband says they are too spoiled, but they are my sweet babies and I love them.

25. I got my kitteh from a shelter, for one reason only: to rid my flat of rodents.
My upstairs neighbors were pigs--never cleaned and the rats were using my ground-level studio flat as the underground railroad. The last straw was when they gnawed a whole box of perfect peaches while I was asleep less than 20 feet away. So I got a cat, thinking she would be aloof and only come near me when she wanted to be fed.

Boy, was I wrong! Miss Patty is a Bombay, the Velcro Cat, who'll jump up on your lap before you've even lowered your ass in the chair. If anyone has ever been a Bombay guardian, you know how playful and loving they are. I'm convinced she's just workin' her human supplicants so we will continue to keep her in treats and catnip, but since she's warm and has that amazing coat, she will continue to get everything she wants from us.

I'm a cat convert, thanks to her!

26. My cat is very affectionate.
She has to be making contact of some kind when sleeping. She loves to curl up in my lap and purr 3/4 of the year. In the summer, when it's hot, she drapes herself across the back of the chair above my head.

She follows me to the barn to do chores. She sits on my chest and bats at my face to wake me up if I've overslept.

She brings gifts. Many mice, voles, pack rats, lizards, and juvenile rabbits are presented.

Sometimes she brings them in live, turns them loose, and tries to teach me to hunt.

She sits in the window and watches for me to come home.

29. The horde as a whole likes to socialize
Evie sleeps between stacks of pillows at night and will do the kitty flop and The Barrel Roll of Happiness(TM) to greet me.

Plato insists on sitting close to me and holding hands with me (ouch!), but will zoom off at warp 11 if I try to pet him. Of course, sometimes he wants me to scratch him under his chin for 30 minutes at a time.

Socrates sleeps on my feet. He weighs 25 pounds, so there's no sleeping around him. On weekends, he goes up and down the middle of the bed purring like a big jet if we don't get up early enough to feed him.

Quark snuggles up to me all the time, and steals my spot if I get up. All he has to do to start purring is see me.

Neutrino climbs on me in the middle of the night and parks on my hip. Sometimes she'll crawl on my head.

I love 'em all more than life itself. :loveya: :loveya:
