Would you swim in a public pool?

My best friend won't go swimming with me in the public pool in our neighborhood because she thinks too many people pee in it.

We even used to swim in a lake and a small family-owned swimming "hole". We actually used to hitchhike to the swimming hole! Amazingly, we survived.

So, yes, I have no trouble swimming in pools, lakes, beaches, or rivers. But not ponds. Ponds suck.

A properly-maintained public pool gets tested at least once a day, and in most states, that is a requirement. BTW, a lot of pools, like the one at my gym, have a salt water system, rather than chlorine. It does just as good a job, and is safer and less nasty than is chlorine.

I would be swimming in a public pool right this minute if it wasn't 15 miles away. I had a sears pool for 15 years and would replace it right now if I could afford it. I love to swim and really miss it both for cooling off and low gravity exercise. 2 years without my pool has really taken a toll on my health. :-(

We deal with all sorts of germs and invisible gross stuff that we don't even know about every day. I figure, if you become too sensitive to stuff like that you'll never do anything.

At least public pools are tested at some point. There are worse things for me to worry about.

and as another poster said, that pool with the pee in it is still cleaner and safer than rain water, and certainly than any lakes, streams, rivers, or oceans.

And most of your public pools use more of it than the basic private one. I always swam in the public pools as a kid. I've swam in the same pond where my cows shit and pissed. I'm not scared of public pools.

22. I have to be honest: there is a neurotic part of me that would live in a bubble if I could.

An inner germophobe who would give over to OCD and never stop scrubbing or washing her hands. (I blame my Virgo Moon Sign.)

But I fight it and have relaxed enough to live a normal life. Trust your immune system to take care of everyday schmutz that's out there ready to attack and invade. Unless one has immune issues, you should be fine.

And whomever said there are a lot worse hazards out there is right! I just learned that most fertilizer nowadays is mixed with human sewage, and they're finding bacteria in veggies that is present in human sex organs and colons!! Resistant bacteria to just about any antibiotic.

As a vegetarian, that freaks me out a lot more than a dip in a public pool.
