I just defrosted the hell out of my Air Conditioner

I've been gone for a few days, and Elfrangel had been complaining that the A/C wasn't blowing very hard, certainly not hard enough to cool the house down. Well, turns out that the coils in my air handler were frozen. So, I went to the shop and got my kerosene torpedo heater



and blew the >200 degree air into my air-return, while the system was on 'Fan'.

I figured that, once I felt a good solid stream of warm air coming from my registers, the system would be defrosted.

It worked like a champ!

2. Down here in FL, if your AC coils freeze up

it usually means that your are low on Freon. Check it out. If that is the problem, recharging that bad boy will mean that it will cool a lot better, and run less often, lowering your power bill. FWIW.

Lots of people would just turn the thermostat down making the problem worse. Like my dad. His refrigerator would freeze up because he didn't dust and his ice cream was like soup. Because he saw the ice he said it was working great! I guess self-defrosting appliances have made people forget that icing up is bad.
