Another "Found footage" movie is coming out, this time an Exorcism

Looks like it's the same "Shaky-Cam, Found footage" format as Blair Witch, Cloverfield, REC, and Paranormal Activity. And yes, I will probably go see it when it comes out in the theaters.

1. I saw that ad and thought it looked pretty dumb (to me.)

Then again, I hate the "found footage" type movies. Perhaps in a future movie someone will find such "found footage" where the camera owner not only knew about tripods, but owned one and knew how to use it properly :P

2. I like them, Paranormal Activity DID use a tripod

The couple set up a tripod in their bedroom to record any ghosts while they were sleeping. But the problem about those movies isn't tripods, its about putting the damn camera down to help your friends from the attacking zombies/monster/witch. George Romero did the found footage thing for a zombie movie and the people holding the camera CONTINUE to hold said camera even while their friends are being attacked. I can get the idea of wanting to have a record of a world-changing event, but god damn, help your friends out or at least run your ass off to get away from the zombies/monster and THEN record all you want.

3. Or attach the camera to your head, like a spelunker's light.

Then you can help AND keep making your "record" (as if all security cameras everywhere have mysteriously stopped working all at the same time...)

4. the baddies always knock out the security cameras in the first act of the movie

Remember, there were 86 that had a view of the plane going into the Pentagon, and yet when it comes to zombies/baddies, they appear to be better organized and capable than living/government/military/special-forces experts at the same job :D

5. I've found these found footage films to be a mixed bag.

I thought "Blair Witch" was pretty entertaining. I couldn't stand the ridiculous hyperbole about it being the scariest film ever, but I did like the ending quite a bit and it gave me quite a chill. "Rec" is probably the best example of the genre I've seen, I think the acting really helped in that regard. However, "Paranormal Activity" was one of the worst movies I've ever seen and I can't believe the movie was hyped as it was. I honestly didn't get a single scare or thrill from that movie. It was annoying as hell being part of an audience that was so obviously on the edge of their seats the whole time. Every little door creak elicited gasps from the audience. It was like they were expecting so much from the promos, it took insanely little to make them lose their collective cool. It was definitely the worst movie I've seen of the past few years. I'm actually incredulous that they're making a sequel to it.

7. I'm skeptical because it's PG-13...which really ups the suckage factor generally

I really liked Blair Witch (I think i'm one of 8 people who did like it), and Cloverfield, and Paranormal Activity (although I wish the latter were more...spooky).

If it were R rated, I'd be there on opening night...but a PG-13 Eli Roth movie makes me almost want to wait for it to come out on Redbox so I only waste $1 instead of $13

8. I can think of some good PG-13 horror movies of late.

I thought Sam Raimi's "Drag Me To Hell" was extremely fun and provided some really great jumps and scares. Also "1408" and "The Others" were semi-recent PG-13 horror flicks that I considered to be well above average.
