2. We have a resident pair of wood peckers that live around here.
They had babies and now the babies are hanging out by the bird feeder.

Cute little things.

3. Dumb question, but here goes...
They don't peck at the bird feeder, do they? I mean, not like they're drilling into a tree.

4. No, they eat bird seed.
They seem to like the sunflower seeds a lot.

I don't know if the drilling into trees comes later.

They are cute.

23. My bird seed retailer (For Birds Only)
says our Woodpecker friends like the plain suet the best. It costs a bit more, but it doesn't have the seeds or berries, and they love the stuff.

9. Remember... there ARE no dumb questions...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
...only dumb people.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
But this is not a dumb question.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Prevailing belief is that woodpeckers peck for 3 reasons:
.
#1. Looking for food -- termites n grubs n the like
.
#2. Building homes
.
#3. Establishing territoriality
.
.
.
.
.
The dumb question from THIS dumb person is...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
...why don't they have such constant OMG FUCKING HEADACHES(!!!!!)...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
...that they are not only unwilling, but unable to reproduce.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Howcomes they brains ain't all swolled up and/or sloshy?
.
.

19. Have you heard?
Ornithologists have just discovered that a hitherto unknown sexually-transmitted disease is rapidly spreading among songbirds. It's called cherpes.
