Man drove car for 82 years. Wicked cool car!
Mr. Allen Swift (Springfield, MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new – as a graduation gift in 1928.

He drove it up until his death last year…..at the age of 102 !!!

5. I would imagine that at some point they started having to be custom made
The body on that has probably been re-done a few times, too.

10. My Uncle was a Rolls mechanic...
...and worked on a lot of old cars like that. You could get parts for any of them. I don't think it was cheap. :-)

18. My Dad talked to a man who had owned one since the 30's
Parts still come from Rolls - I would expect that the prices are are stratospheric - and if the car is "properly" maintained, that mey well be the original paint! My Dad asked the old gent who had restored his - He said it did'nt need restoration, it had never been neglected....

19. There are two kinds of RR owners.
There's the kind who want a status symbol to drive around every day and there's the kind who collect and appreciate fine "motor cars". The serious collectors REALLY look down their noses at the type of owners who "probably ought to be driving a Mercedes instead".

Back in the early 70's my dad, my brother and I got passes for the annual Rolls-Royce owners club meet. The new model from Rolls that year was the Corniche. My uncle knew a fellow who had just purchased one. It was brand spanking new and had less than 35 miles on the odometer. We got to go for a ride in it. Amazing car.

Almost all of the other cars at the meet were in a condition that was equal to the brand new one. I remember a group of owners whispering amongst themselves about one of the other owners and the car he brought to the meet. It wasn't pristine (Maybe it had fingerprints on the door handle or a little bit of wear on the tires). The poor guy was a disgrace to them!

In those circles the cars are kept in perfect condition all the time. If the paint gets a tiny ding or a little scratch an appointment is made immediately to take care of it.

11. he donated the car to the Museum of Springfield History
and $1,000,000 that was used to purchase the museum building. Being from the area and having been involved with the final inspections of the building before it could open I have seen the car and the only thing they had to do to the car was drain the fuel and oil.
