If it's not keeping up with the heat, try taking the cover off and cleaning the coils off with a garden hose. Make sure you turn the power off first. I do this every spring.

Some little lizard or frog got in between the contacts and got fried. Its little bones were keeping the contacts from making a connection so the compressor would not come on. Took the repair guy about ten minutes to figure it out, then he hung around for about a half hour to make sure that was all it was.
Their minimum charge for a call is $95 so he was making sure I got my money's worth. And he got to take a break as the house cooled off.

once just this past week...And it was about 100 degrees outside (not exaggerating). Not fun.
