Poetry Suggestions for the FLASHES
Hey folks--

Was traveling home the other day with Loreena McKennit playing in the car... then Lullaby came on from one of her earlier albums..

It's a simple piece-- the words are by Blake and recited by a male voice...

What words...?

O for a voice like thunder, and a tongue
To drown the throat of war! - When the senses
Are shaken, and the soul is driven to madness,
Who can stand? When the souls of the oppressed
Fight in the troubled air that rages, who can stand?
When the whirlwind of fury comes from the
Throne of God, when the frowns of his countenance
Drive the nations together, who can stand?
When Sin claps his broad wings over the battle,
And sails rejoicing in the flood of Death;
When souls are torn to everlasting fire,
And fiends of Hell rejoice upon the slain,
O who can stand? O who hath caused this?
O who can answer at the throne of God?
The Kings and Nobles of the Land have done it!
Hear it not, Heaven, thy Ministers have done it!

To listen to the recitation of this over Loreena's music--

To listen to Don McLean's "The Grave" (done by him or even George Michael's remake)--

Suffice it to say-- I had to stop the car on the side of the road and compose myself.

Folks who do flashes-- would you consider using these? They'd be great!

1. I love Loreena's music
I don't need music for my hot flashes though, thank you very much. ;)

Oh, that's not what you meant!

BTW, you reminded me by saying Don McLean...have you heard Dougie MacLean? I like his music, too.

2. This one does it for me, but Blake is incredible
Emily Dickinson

ONE need not be a chamber to be haunted,
One need not be a house;
The brain has corridors surpassing
Material place.

Far safer, of a midnight meeting 5
External ghost,
Than an interior confronting
That whiter host.

Far safer through an Abbey gallop,
The stones achase, 10
Than, moonless, one’s own self encounter
In lonesome place.

Ourself, behind ourself concealed,
Should startle most;
Assassin, hid in our apartment, 15
Be horror’s least.

The prudent carries a revolver,
He bolts the door,
O’erlooking a superior spectre
More near. 20
