I awoke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered
Started humming a song from 1962
Ain't it funny how the night moves
When you just don't seem to have as much to lose
Strange how the night moves
With autumn closing in

1. What a great tune!
My first concert ever was Bob Seger. Great show, October 1983. :-)

2. I've always thought of that as my theme song.
Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 09:56 PM by greatauntoftriplets
Always makes me think impure thoughts.

On edit:

was a little too tall
Could've used a few pounds
Tight pants points hardly reknown
She was a black haired beauty with big dark eyes
And points all her own sitting way up high
Way up firm and high

Out past the cornfields where the woods got heavy
Out in the back seat of my '60 Chevy
Workin' on mysteries without any clues
Workin' on our night moves
Trying' to make some front page drive-in news
Workin' on our night moves in the summertime
In the sweet summertime

We weren't in love oh no far from it
We weren't searching for some pie in the sky summit
We were just young and restless and bored
Living by the sword
And we'd steal away every chance we could
To the backroom, the alley, the trusty woods
I used her she used me
But neither one cared
We were getting our share

Workin' on our night moves
Trying to lose the awkward teenage blues
Workin' on out night moves
In the summertime
And oh the wonder
Felt the lightning
And we waited on the thunder
Waited on the thunder

I woke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered
Started humming a song from 1962
Ain't it funny how the night moves
When you just don't seem to have as much to lose
Strange how the night moves
With autumn closing in

5. The Bob Seger System
For some of the best, little-known Seger (and the real reason he is in the Rock HOF), check out this anti-war gem from his 1968 debut album when he called his band, a power trio, "The Bob Seger System".

"2+2=?"

Yes it's true I am a young man
But I'm old enough to kill
I don't wanna kill nobody
But I must if you so will
And if I raise my hand in question
You just say that I'm a fool
Cause I got the gall to ask you
Can you maybe change the rules
Can you stand and call me upstart
Ask what answer can I find, I ain't sayin' I'm a genius
2+2 is on my mind

Well I knew a guy in high school
Just an average friendly guy
And he had himself a girlfriend
And you made them say goodbye
Now he's buried in the mud
Over foreign jungle land
And his girl just sits and cries
She just doesn't understand
So you say he died for freedom
Well if he died to save your lies
Go ahead and call me yellow
2+2 is on my mind

All I know is that I'm young and your rules they are old
If I've got to kill to live
Then there's something left untold
I'm no statesman I'm no general
I'm no kid I'll never be
It's the rules not the soldier
that I find the real enemy

I'm no prophet I'm no rebel
I'm just asking you why
I just want a simple answer
Why it is I 've got to die
I'm a simple minded guy
2+2 is on my mind

6. Thanks, ZombyWoof.
Never heard that one before. What wonderful, moving, touching, sad lyrics. I turned 19 in 1968, so I know what it was like.

7. Where Bob Seger is mentioned...
I will be here. :) It's hard to pick my favorite song of his, but "The Fire Inside" and "Hollywood Nights" are two of my favorites.
