11. Only suckers take the ferry
The tunnel is much quicker.

If I wanted to know information about the ferry I would have asked for it.

8. The Inner Banks don't exist
It's just a made-up word to promote tourism in coastal North Carolina areas that aren't the Outer Banks.

Are there banks in Edenton? Maybe a couple branches of Wachovia and Bank of America.

Is Roanoke Island an Inner Bank? It's located in the middle of a Sound, between Bodie Island and the mainland. Nevertheless, it's the home of the Outer Banks Visitors Center.

5. Not if you ride your bike through it
If you drive a car or motorcycle, yes. It's gone up $2. But, there's that bypass road you can take at Avon that takes you to Ocracoke and then to Topsail.

Have you ever even been to North Carolina?

And what's this 'Bradford on' shit?

It's just Avon. The locals needed something easy to pronounce.

22. North what? Never heard of the place.
Been to Portsmouth a few times though. Bath is quite a quaint place. Did you know that Bath is IN Avon?

As for me, I was born in Guilford, and raised in the Surry Hills. Considered going to Durham for college, I hear they got a good school there.

:P

25. Only an idiot would build on a spit of land that sticks out in the ocean and is a hurricane target
But since there are plenty of idiots in the world, yeah, it's pretty built up.

The good news is that most of the island is still protected National Seashore.

30. we used to drive those last 50? 70? miles of the Natl Seashore in the dark
desperate to get there finally and have a drink.

One time we stayed in those silver trailers on stilts- forget the name of that town near Hatteras. There were great shack-type places to eat, and people fishing on the beach, and very few giant houses. Also the largest biting skeeters I have ever seen.

But wow, few better places to see the Milky Way. Just beautiful. Hope you have a great time, we haven't been there since my husband's parents passed away.

Yes, it's named for that city in California.

It's about 60 miles from Nags Head.

32. do you fish in the surf? That's what my FIL used to do...
loved how folks parked their trucks on the beach - never saw that anywhere else. My sister also used to camp there at futher in at Oregon inlet, I think, and fish.

34. The tradition of trucks on the beach began because roads came late to Hatteras
For years, the only way to get from one end of the island to the other was drive up the beach. The sand on the other side of the dune line was too soft.

Now there's a big raging controversy because the Park Service is placing some restrictions on it.

I don't fish, I just enjoy the sights and sounds.
