7. We had huge rain/thunderstorms here the last few days.

Temps dropped from over 90 to 40 something. Feels like fall, but it's supposed to be over 90 again later this week. Crazy summer ...

Let me see, it's 1197.506' above sea level, so I can't beat that. And I wouldn't like to. I saw too many nice holiday villas at 66' here getting free indoor lake water swimming pools when the lake overflows. ;)

13. The only ones getting free indoor pools here are the ones right on the coast

or Galveston Bay. Some friends had four feet of water mixed with raw sewage in their home when Hurricane Ike came through, but they're right on the bay, maybe ten feet up. I don't even have a major bayou within a mile of here, so I'm mostly high and dry, and mostly dry lately.

It's nice to get the rain, but I'd like to see a return to our normal 3pm 5-minute thunderstorms. It helps keep things cooler overall :)

30. It's wearing me down, too,

but mostly because the a/c in this apartment is too small for my unit (central air, not a window unit.) The landlord is cheap, so I end up having to freeze overnight and the next morning in order to keep the indoor temps from getting above 85F. I've already got the handyman/neighbor on my side such that when I'm working again, we'll be painting the roof of my unit white to help cut down on some of the heat. I can't get my libertarian landlord to agree to even that kind of cheap fix.

The alternatives are to leave in the afternoon for someplace like the library or a cafe that doesn't mind me staying a few hours ;)

34. Yeah, that's also why the older houses (and roads) in Houston

are aligned NW/SE for the coastal breezes. No such luck for this small set apartments, even though they were built in the 50s. But, the price is right and I don't have to pay for the electricity. Still, you'd think when given ideas on saving electricity, that landlords would jump on it...

it was nasty earlier today close to 100 and 70% humidity blech, but right now it is almost cold! I am going to have to turn the fan off - 67 outside and 77 still inside (baked pizzas a little while ago)
