I am in Cincinnati tonight about 50 miles away from my hometown. I really didn't need to go to the house for anything. I had some time to kill and it was a toss up between going home and having a few beers or heading down to the casino a few miles away from where I am at my home terminal. I also would like to buy my own trailer here pretty soon and I thought about going to look at one today, but I called the company I'm leasing my current trailer from and got the beginning hub reading for it. According to the rental agreement I have to keep my current trailer for about 5000 more miles or be charged a penalty. I'll start worrying about a trailer again after another couple of weeks.
So I decided to try to strike it rich over at the casino.
I like to play blackjack here and there and I don't go for the computerized games or the slots. I also don't understand some of the other table games like roulette and craps. If I play anything other than blackjack, it's usually another card game. I also have a limit as far as what I'm willing to lose goes and I stick to it. It's been a long time since I've gotten hurt in a casino.
A big part of the fun for me when playing blackjack is watching other players. I really like to play on a table where some big bets are being laid down even though I don't usually play more than $10 a hand myself unless I'm up a little and the cards have been falling right for me. I was playing at a $10 minimum table today that had a $1000 high limit and I wasn't doing very good. I was down $140 at one point and quickly approaching the point at which I cut my losses and hit the door. Then along came this little Asian woman. She took a seat beside me and bought $170 worth of chips.
Things started to turn almost immediately and we were off on a streak. The Asian woman turned out to be a bit of a high roller. She started pushing more and more chips up on the table with each bet. She was betting $100 a hand before too long. I don't know exactly how much she was up, but it looked to me to be at least $1000 at one point. I turned my negative $140 into a positive $300. Everyone at the table had a boat load of chips.
Then I shoved $20 out there on a hand, doubled down for another $20, and drew 20. I was thinking I was going to be doing really good. Then the dealer drew 21 and things turned.
I lowered my bet back down to the minimum and we went back and forth for a little while, but then things turned into a downward trend. The Asian woman started to lose big before she thought to cut back her bet. I gave back $100 of my winnings and she about half of hers. I decided it was time to get up. She wanted me to stay and play because she liked the way I played, but I had to go. I hope she didn't lose her ass. I watched a little while longer before I hit the door and things didn't look good.
