It would need to be a middle-aged, white male, tall, preferably someone who already has that gravitas to carry that enormous role.

Lincoln had a high pitched voice and loved to tell stories, either to make a joke or a profound point. I voted Daniel Day Lewis for the poll, but I bet Norton would make a better portrayal of Lincoln as a real person. He wasn't a stone figure with the perpetually serious face we see in monuments.

26. It should be someone with exquisite timing.

Lincoln was America's clown prince, always joking. The pictures we see of him are always somber and grave; in life, he was said to be very animated and very, very funny. He was tall, thin and very strong. His voice is usually portrayed as gravelly and deep; in truth, Lincoln had a high, reedy voice. I don't know who should play him, but Leonardo DiCaprio is a gimme as Grant.
