1. Nothing wrong with that. I went to a concert in 2008 by myself and ended up in my first moshpit

I was about to be broken up with and felt it coming, so it was one of those fun but sad nights.

Of course, now I don't go to concerts at all because the bloodsucking promoters want $75 a ticket.

If you are going for the music, hell no it is not pathetic - it means you have good taste and like the music/performers. GO! enjoy - you may run into somebody you know I did at both of those I went to alone.

6. Once: Rancid---thought it'd be pathetic to go alone, but ended up having a great time

A couple of friends who said they might go pooped out on me and I don't know many people my age ( I'm 59 now and this was about 4 years ago) who even know who Rancid is, much less how great they are.( I saw a lot of 40-ish aging punkers but only one other person my age; a slight acquaintance, with her much younger husband). I was also kind of sick that day, and between not having anyone to go with, and not feeling well, I almost didn't go, but finally decided it's Rancid; I can't miss 'em. They energized me so much that by halfway through the show I was literally jumping up and down, hollering at the top of my voice, and pumping my fist in the air, like someone half (or a third) my age . One of the great concerts I've ever seen. I'd seen them with my friend Joe about 9 years earlier and only hoped they'd be as good as the previous time. They were even better this time. (funny story too; Joe's daughters were teenagers at the time of the first one, and desperately wanted to go, but it was a school night, and he wouldn't let them. Then I talked him into going with me, so the poor kids were not allowed to see the punk rock show that their dad ended up going to instead). So, to make a short story long (as usual) yeah, the one concert I saw alone was awesome, and I'm so glad I didn't let the fact that I had no one to go with stop me.

I didn't care. In fact, i probably preferred to be alone for this particular show.

10. The worst thing is going to a concert with a SO

who thinks they HAVE to come (even though they don't like the artist). Otherwise *I* wouldn't enjoy it??!!???

So, I had to put up with someone not enjoying the show, rolling her (in my case) eyes and wanting to leave ASAP.

A potentially great relationship turned sour on that night.

I've also had the reverse. I had a SO who wanted me to go see Randy Newman. It'll probably be sacrilege to some here, but I'm not into Randy. So, I refused to go. Didn't go down well.

If you want to go, go. Alone or with friends. But go.

It never occurred to me not to go if I wanted to hear the artist. I enjoyed myself immensely, too.

First time I was going to see Robert Plant in concert and the people who were going with me got lost on the way. I don't think they ever made it to the concert although the one girl was pissed - she was a big plant fan.

Second time was a year later for a Jimmy Page concert. The friend going with me was in a car accident and was too banged up to go anywhere and I couldn't find anyone else interested in going so I figured 'what the heck I survived the first time'.

The last time I purposively went by myself to the concert. It was the day after I saw Roger Waters "Dark Side of the Moon" tour. He had happened to have 2 shows in Philly and on a Saturday afternoon I was still in a DSOTM buzz remember the concert when I looked up to see if any tickets were still available for Saturday's show. I figured I could scrounge up a friend to go. By misktake I put 1 in instead of 2 and there was one seat available at the 10th row for the concert. I thought 'why not' and went. Amazing!

I have been to many shows on my own. In fact I went to Chicago recently to hear Julie Fowlis who sings in Scots gaelic which less than 1% of the people speak these days. Not an easy sell- Afterward a man came up and said "I really enjoyed the show but you could have spoken some English" Well she had introduced every tune in English but he couldn't understand a word because of her accent.

As a single woman of 40, I go places by myself or stay home. And, I'm not about to stay home!

I have to give credit to a stranger that happened to sit next to me and my boyfriend du jour at a Springsteen concert. At the time I was in my mid-20s and wouldn't have gone anywhere alone. She was there by herself because her husband didn't like Springsteen (horror!) and they decided not to spend that much money on a ticket for a show he wouldn't enjoy. We hung out with her all evening and made sure she got to her car safely. After that I realized that I would be fine going to dinners, movies, concerts, etc. alone. I always end up having fun.

I started doing it when I was in my mid-late twenties. I got sick of missing shows I wanted to see because nobody wanted to go, so I started going myself. First club shows, then auditoriums, then arenas. My first solo arena show was a spontaneous decision. The subway had just opened a new station a couple of blocks from my apartment and I decided to go see a Bruins game that Saturday. There were plenty of tickets available back then and I just went in that day and got a great seat just a few rows back behind the penalty box. The day before I had heard a DJ on the radio say that there were still tickets to the Kinks show at the Garden that Sunday, so when I went in to the Bruins game I just bought a ticket to that show too. It was a little weird being at an arena show by myself but I did enjoy the show and I was glad I went.

A few years later I started writing for a local rock magazine so I was constantly going to shows by myself to review (or check out) bands. Then it got to be no big deal at all; it's just what I did. I often would run into people I knew as well.

Then last year, I really wanted to see Springsteen again so I bought a pair of tickets, figuring someone would come with. Unfortunately, I couldn't get anyone to go. Yeah, no shit! So I went to see Bruce at the Garden by myself. Had a great time.

So yeah, just do it. :-)

I always have to go at least 450 to 500 miles from here (Denver or Phoenix); what's another 1500? I'll ALWAYS take a spare Bruce ticket off of someone's hands. But yeah, I'm with you on that; I was ready to go to Denver by myself last year, and right before tickets went on sale a couple of friends decided I was right; they'd be fools to miss it, so ended up going with both of them, but was fully prepared to go by myself and not miss the greatest rock and/or roll band there ever was and ever shall be.

I do music writing too, so, yeah, going alone is par for the course for me too. I do prefer the smaller club shows, if I'm by myself, though. I do get a little twitchy in huge crowds if I'm alone.

What I really love are the avant/noise, free jazz, and underground metal shows in rock clubs. There is almost NEVER a line for the ladies' room. :D

The most recent one was Zero 7 earlier this year. It was my little indulgence ($30 ticket), and I didn't have anyone dragging on me that they were tired, or it sucked, or they wanted to go home, or that it was SRO, or any number of other annoying things the s.o. could have come up with. :P I stood one row of bodies back from the stage all night and had a blast.

Went to see Iron Man 2 by myself on a free day off from work, courtesy of my boss, and I came home from the movie feeling like I'd been on vacation for a week. :)
