Poll question: Where should I go for the long weekend.

Gizmonic and I celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary this Labor Day weekend. We are thinking of a short flight somewhere. We're near Akron.

Where should we go?

Seriously, pack the camping gear (tent) and hit I-80. Head to Cook Forest (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/cookforest.aspx - allows pets) or 11 miles more to Clear Creek (http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/clearcreek.aspx - no pets). I've been to both and they are wonderful places.

A week later I'll be camping in PA for an amateur astronomy event.

Funny you mention Toledo. I lived there for two years and have no intention of ever returning.

6. I passed through there once.

Cook Forest is wonderful. Talk her into it. You can get a trip 10 miles up the river (15-passenger van with a trailer filled with canoes) and just take your time floating down with the current. You'll see all kinds of wildlife, including great herons, cranes, deer, and the occasional bear, so keep the food in the car. They're the "Yogi and Boo-boo" kind of bears.

That's not really fair. Her family spent a week in a cabin in Clear Creek State Park every summer when she was a kid. She loves camping. But it IS worth a try!!

19. You don't have to do the tent, get a nice cabin. Cooks Forest

is nice. Or Presque Isle in Erie is nice too, and if you like gambling (blah), there is a casino up there too. Or there are also cabins available at the Grand Canyon of PA, lots of trails, overlooks, and cabins built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's

Washington would probably be great, but I have one hang-up about it. The last time I was there in 1993 (the only time) it was to make a connecting flight at the airport. As we headed up to flying altitude, I could see the Capitol dome from the plane. My first reaction was that it was so cool to be able to see it. Then I remembered who works there--Congressmen busy selling out the public--and my heart sank and left me feeling sad.

seafood at Baltimore harbor...unless they don't have that any more, then I guess Boston still has chowder or something.

Boston because I LOVE Boston, or DC because I lived there when I was small.

If DC, do NOT miss the Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress. It sounds like drudgery, but I
promise you, on the inside, it is one of North America's most spectacular architectural marvels. Also,
just go to Wisconsin and M streets and walk up Wisconsin Ave. a few blocks and just enjoy the atmosphere
of Georgetown. It'll seem like downtown DC is a thousand miles (and 100 years) away.
