The rest of my teeth are gone and new dentures put in

Yesterday I had the rest taken out and my dentures put in. They don't line up and I can't eat hardly anything. I had some jello and my sister brought me over some white chili she thought I could eat...I couldn't. Well, I had the broth and tried to eat the little bits like corn and tomato, but I had to just swallow.

The top ones fit fine, but the bottom ones don't line up so i have no "bite". I have to go in later today (Sat) and hopefully the Doc can align them. I took them out and looked at them and the bottom ones (when lined up) are crooked.

I haven't had any decent meal in a long time and am finally losing weight..lol.

Anyone have dentures that didn't line up at all when they first got them and how long did they take to get adjusted?

I'm so sorry you're having trouble with your new teeth...

I have no idea about how long this will take, alas. I'm sure your dentist will be anxious to fix you up, though...

And I gotta say, this is a tough way to lose weight!

I hope I can eat soon. My birthday is tomorrow (Sunday) and I was wanting a steak, now all I will be able to have is jello or steak puree..lol.

Maybe by Sunday the dentist might have your dentures in right so you can have your steak, and NOT pureed, lol!

4. since you mentioned puree...

when my grandmother had dental work done and couldn't chew...she literally put the cooked hamburger patty in the blender with some tomato sauce...and drank it up.
It was kind of funny to me as I was so young.
She drank it down. I was impressed. lol

and she did lots of fruit and veggie purees too.

maybe a protein supplement might help...like you put in a shake or something.

6. Mine did not line up to start with.....

I would say it took at least 1 trip right back and another 2 or 3 visits (over a a few weeks time) for minor adjustments when all the healing was done and the swelling was gone. I know that they stick them right in but, I couldn't eat with mine to start with for some time....other than soft foods. The pressure on the tender spots was too painful. I had mine all pulled and gums split and bone ground and dentures crammed in on top of this at one sitting. (the dentures were made from previous consultation and impressions visits). Give it time, before you know it, you will be able to manage those chompers like a pro. I can even do corn on the cob with no problem.

8. My Mom (almost 67)

just had her first set of teeth pulled back in April. Her dentures still don't fit right. :(

13. Cottage cheese with or without fruit is helping me get through

my new lower plate right now. And homemade veggie soup.

Three years ago I got a full top plate, and it was way out of alignment. My dentist at the time, whom I would suggest people avoid like the plague, fixed it by having the one side crushed in. Plate fit my mouth, but after thousands of dollars, I ended up with a plate with crooked teeth on the crushed in side, and the teeth are so small you can hardly tell I have them in when I smile. The partial plate I had on the bottom had teeth so small and dull that when I ate at home, I just
took them out, it was easier to eat without them.
It's a long story about this dentist and I won't bore you with it, but my point is this:
if you don't like what you end up with, keep insisting on getting what you paid for. I didn't, and I'm sorry now.
I had to get the bottom as a full plate this year, and I found a great dentist. Fast, efficient, accurate, good work, and teeth that are actually of use in eating, imagine that! He's so good I actually feel better with the full lower than I felt with the bad partial lower. Next year I hope to have the money to get both plates redone, before too many years of the bad plates make my face look even worse.
I was so overwhelmed emotionally by having to go to dentures that I didn't fight for what I paid for.

My husband, who got full dentures long before I ever met him, has frustrated me over the last 8 years because all he has ever wanted to eat is soft, mushy food...mostly high in carbs, and he is diabetic. He has always been reluctant to discuss his dentures. Finally, last month, he just admitted to me that his dentures have never aligned properly. Still can't get him to go get his re-done, but I'll keep trying.

14. I did pick up some cottage cheese yesterday

I hope I don't have to go thru what you went thru. That is horrible. I have my appointment in about 2 hours and I am just hoping that this Dr. is really good at what he does. I can hardly keep these bottom ones in right now because they are hurting so much. But I want to keep them in when I go see him.

I hope your husband can be talked into getting his fixed up. He is missing out on too much.

My dad told me he cried in the mornings when he put his lower plate in. That takes courage, you know, to inflict pain on yourself like that with an eye to a better future. The dentist told him to wear them until the swelling went down. So he did.

15. The same day they put mine in (just the uppers)....

....I had to schedule three additional appointments (consecutive Fridays to miss the minimum of work) for "adjustments."

For the duration it was Slimfast and peanut butter spread light on a piece of white bread no crust. Helluva month.

Five years on, no problems.
