Rove Beetles

Rove beetles are very active fliers and runners. When they run, they often raise up the end of their abdomen, which is really their rump.

They are harmless insects, but the habits of some of them make them unappealing to many people. They live in or near dead animals, feeding on other insects such as fly maggots that eat those dead animals.

Adults are early visitors to a corpse and they feed on larvae of all species of fly, including predatory fly larvae. They lay their eggs in the corpse, and the emerging larvae are also predators.
