I puttered around (more or less literally) for two weeks before taking it back to the shop, as it took that long to stop kicking myself. Turned out that the impact (on the passenger's side) had somehow knocked a chunk out of the front tire on the driver's side. I'm such an idiot that I was hearing the noise as coming from the driver's side, but because I'd hit the curb on the other side, I just figured my directional hearing was fritzed. Also cracked an axle. Got 4 new tires and a new axle (and another alignment); escaped for $850. So on the whole, I'm glad I didn't wait for divine intervention to fix it, and REALLY glad I didn't go through with running into a curb with the driver's side to try to rebalance things. Though it would have been exciting, wouldn't it?
