Motorcycle ride through Chernobyl...
I found this this morning as I was reading the news. This girl rides her motorcycle through Chernobyl. The link is to pictures of the ghost towns the disaster created. It's really interesting.

Take some time to look at the pictures and read the captions.

1. Trumad has mirrored that site.
Angelfire has bandwith restrictions. That is quite interesting.

2. I saw this the other day, and it was heartbreaking
She went into various abandoned apartment buildings and a school and took pictures of the photos that people had to leave behind because they were so contaminated. It was like one of those post-atomic doom movies from the 1960's -- the saddest thing imaginable.

On the other hand, the shots of the countryside had a certain wild beauty, because the abandoned areas are returning to nature. There are wolves and wild boars (that lair in the houses) and herds of horses that look just like the ones in cave paintings. Creepy and amazing.

4. You're welcome.
I thought the exact same thing. I'd love to do that, but I'm too much of a chicken. I love going through old abandoned buildings. And the time has just stopped in that place. Everything is as it was back then, except for of course the damage from the tragedy and what time does to places. Did you see the clothes on the line on that balcony of that apartment building? It's so creepy.

8. Very sobering.
It IS like one of those post-apocalyptic movies. Deserted towns, the forgotten rubbish of a vanished people. Creepy. Our host was attractive, though, and her English was very cute! One question: why does she not wear protective clothing on these jaunts?

9. Just
haunting! The picture of the children's toys abandoned in the park. As a mother the image of that picture and the story around, I am speechless.

and hope that someone here with a powerful connection might see it and get it produced as a Documentary Film. Elena's comments are wonderful to read because she brings such life into these silent pictures with her descriptions.

Chernobyl is going down the "memory hole" and with the Bush adminstration successfully pushing for tax credits to build more nuclear plants of destruction, Elena's photos and comments would be one of the most valuable pieces of documentation as to the nightmare of silence that can happen when nuclear goes wrong.

This is exactly the kind of "History" we should be seeing on our cable channels like "History Channel" or "PBS." I hope someone will take notice and produce this and in just the way Elena has presented it. It is HER story and it needs to be told for all those who will be forgotten.

This is too important to just be viewed by the few on the internet who take the time. It should be everywhere.

There just has to be someone here with a poweful connection to get this out there!

15. Help! I just tried to send it to a friend and their AOL rejected it
saying they had had 481 complaints about the URL address enclosed in the e-mail.

Is there some way I can by pass this. And, why would AOL say they had complaints about the URL of this site? I sent it to another friend who isn't on AOL and it wasn't bounced.
