for me it was about 1960 i was 4 almost 5 i was visiting my grandparents in east tennessee my papaw was the roundhouse boss at the depot in train that means boss guy my uncle was a conductor and my family had worked the L&N since it started i wet to papaws work and a sign on a water fountain said "whites only" my family is about half cherokee in every direction you look through blood and marriage and we were never ashamed of it but i knew i wasnt "white" and i knew my papaw was in charge of the whole show i had a hard time wrapping my head around that sign
when was your first inkling?
