16. It is just so wrong. I would never never do it. But I have done it

with TopSiders. And I have been told by many that is so wrong also. In fact, I have been ordered by the captain on a private boat to take the socks off with the TopSiders, and refused permission to come aboard another boat because of the socks with TopSiders.
The last time I bought a pair of TopSiders, I tried them on with the socks. The sales girl said "are you going to wear those with socks?"
Even this 18 year old kid knew it was wrong.
But I have cold feet sometimes.
My first wife demanded that I never wear socks in bed. She would not allow it.

I wore black socks with my Birks and jeans on to work on "casual Friday" whatever the heck that means these days. And I told someone that gave me grief about it, at this point in my life I don't really care what anyone else thinks.

I find the comments about men should never wear sandals interesting, have never come across that before.

That being said, you could have lovely feet if you, like a lot of women, would also pay some attention to pedicure-iness. (Don't know if that's a word, but bear with me.) Clip the nails, you DON'T have to polish them, of course, but just so they're decent. Put some lotion on occasionally - it feels good if nothing else, it's not girly. And of course, if you have medical issues, all bets are off - wear whatever the hell you want and don't give a heck what people say or think.

Ok. I lied. 2 specialized situations. Socks and sandals never go together. Except when
1) you have just finished bowling, and your feet are sweaty nasty and you dont want to carry socks in your hand, and you only have sandals with you
2) You are wearing the fancy waterproof socks cause you were doing something outdoorsy and didn't want snow/ice cold water to freeze your toes, but you were too proud/smart to wear anything other than sandals.

Those are the only two times when it is acceptable. and barely, even then.

I ride a moped an absurd distance to a job, and even in the summer mornings are cold, wet, and generally highly uncomfortable, for an hour and a half one way. A single pair of socks under the sandals makes all that badness go away.

Yeah, sure I forget to take them off when I get to my job, and sure the students laugh at me. They're rich, smart, and have the time and the money to give a damn what other people think. I don't. So I keep wearing my socks and hoping not a damned one of them has to deal with the things I do when they reach my age.
