Oh, what we do for our cats

Our old lady kitty--a dainty little 6-pound 15-year-old--has recently decided that she's too dainty to use kitty litter and started going next to the litter box. A trip to the vet turned up nothing. A round of antibiotics made no difference. She had decided never to touch cat litter again. After trying various cat litters and arrangements, we've come up with a workable arrangement she likes--a lineup of litter boxes, each with a puppy pad in the bottom. She expects, of course, that each puppy pad will be changed promptly after use. After all, what are servants for?

My elderly lady kitty had the same issue in her days. Nothing else would do but a constant round of puppy piddle pads changed every few hours.

Yes, it's a PITA. But, it makes the little old ladies happy. For the old lady, it was worth it. Kept her going for several more months, and I cherish those months.

8. I have an elderly kitty

When I grill something on the foreman, I have to make sure she gets her share too. Otherwise ,she just steals her share when my back is turned. I give her whole pieces of pizza and she chomps them down! She's a tiny little thing too.

3. My 16-year-old makes it into the box

He just doesn't always turn around. The boxes are the covered kind, because he just backs up and lets it rip. And, with his kidneys functioning at only 25%, lots gets ripped. A couple of times lately, he hasn't turned around before he went like he usually does, so his butt was aimed at the opening. At least he's not going on the carpets...

Poor, old cat.

9. I have an old boy like that too

So I made him a nice deep box using a 35 gallon storage bin. Cut a hole in one end filled it with litter. Now he has plenty of room and almost never leaves his butt hanging over the side.

4. I guess I'm lucky. My old one is over 20 and he gets the box

every time, but then scratches for half an hour on the wall, the furniture, all around, after he has already covered it up.

5. Mine is young (only 6) but every couple of weeks or months

he likes to pee on my clothes.
Haven't figured out what to do with him yet. I have taken him to the vet but that was no help.

Our oldest poops (and sometimes pees) outside the box no matter how clean the box is. Puppy pads...hmm.

7. Try a puppy pad in a litter pan

A puppy pad on the floor didn't do it because she'd immediately scratch it up into a pile and the floor would get wet. A puppy pad in a litter pan seems to do the trick--she likes to use it and no matter how much she rearranges it after use, nothing gets on the floor. She won't use a pad more than once, though, so we have a whole lineup of litter pans lined with puppy pads.

12. I just spent the past 10 minutes cleaning off a window shelf and

gathering cats, putting them in the cleaned off window shelf. There are hundreds of dragonflies outside, and along with them are hundreds of barn swallows flying and diving thru the yard. I figured they would enjoy watching.

I've read too many stories of older animals being given up to shelters because of inconveniences like those mentioned in this thread.
