8. About forty years ago

When I was 24 years old, I went home from Chicago to my small home town for a weekend. On Saturday, I went grocery shopping with my mother. I was wearing my grey maxi coat with a twelve foot white knit scarf and a cute knit hat. Underneath I wore glen plaid overalls with a black turtleneck.

I overheard two younger girls saying, "Isn't that girl cool?"

I was overwhelmed with happiness to be considered cool in my home town.

Now I'm a cool old lady, and don't you dare say I'm not!
