2. I did.

They told me I was ineligible for a merit increase until I had 12 months in my current position. I'm not getting one anyways now because I'm on disciplinary probation so I'm leaving.

I have already had my yearly eval and my 3% but Now they have doubled my responsibilities and my workload.

I just know that I'm not a banker. It's a bad career fit for me. I'm not interested in wasting more time in jobs that just don't suit me. I spent my entire 20s in a series of bad jobs just to have a job. Now, I'm going to go do whatever I want.

Sure, I have no idea how to monetize that for me even so as long as you're not looking to get paid. (You can keep 55% of the spoils you take off the bourgies though...think of it a a commission-based payscale.)

my supervisor informed me of this, he looked at me expectantly for
the longest time... and finally asked, "Well?"

this?"

9. I already got my measly 3% for the year

3% of squat is an insult but I took it with my usual good grace.

However, what has happened this past month is just revolting.

They know I am job scared. Hell. There are NO JOBS.

But Jay-sus.

12. I did. First time I've ever had to ask, although it had been a long time since I got one.

I'm the accountant/bookkeeper guy, so I know the company's status better than most, so I for a few years I didn't worry about it, knowing they couldn't afford to give me one. Late last year I decided I had to have one or had to move on, so I spent a month making myself look better, then went in and asked for one, laying out how long it had been, where I ranked on the company pay scale when I started, where I ranked now, and how much others made now at similar jobs. I didn't make any adversarial statements or threats, I just laid out why I thought I should get one, and told him what I wanted. It was a figure higher than I expected to get, and it made him blink, but I actually got it, after, of course, he laid out the things he wanted me to do better and a couple of new things he wanted me to take over.

All in all, worked out well.

There are only 2 people in my department anyway.

Either that I am going job hunting, something has got to give.

Last time I found a job that paid more and this company matched it to keep me and I let them because the insurance is better at this place.

I can not believe what they have asked me to do this month without giving me a raise. I just can't.

16. Sometimes it's better to move on.

Ask for what you think you deserve, and if they don't give it to you, maybe that's your sign. You might want to send out a few resumes and search the want ads (or however your industry hires) to have an idea what to expect. It will give you confidence when asking for a raise, because you won't be as afraid of rejection, and it will make you feel more ready to walk away. That confidence will be apparent, too, and may tip them that you aren't kidding, which might sway their decision.

I've taken less for better benefits. I even turned down another job for more money and better benefits because the boss struck me as a flake--he didn't let me finish sentences, and seemed too ready to challenge everything. I preferred less money and a boss I trusted more. Turned out to be a good choice--the other guy sold his company to a corporate chain a year later, and a lot of people got big pay cuts or got laid off. I asked around and found out he was a jerk to work for, too--he fired and hired people arbitrarily, sometimes firing someone then rehiring them the next day. That's cool if that's the way he is, but it's definitely not the way I do things.

So there's more to a job than just the money, and it sounds like you're upset with more than just the money.

but since I work for a county government, it's not up to us.

I've heard rumors of a 2% raise but that'll be offset with a 10% increase in our medical deductions.

Whee! Every little bit helps, I guess. I work for a state university, so of course we've had big budget cuts for the last few years.
