Hipster?
I read some vitriolic rant from Fox News against "hipsters".

(If not for this subliminal indoctrination, people like Noam Chomskywould have few readers, and terrorists would have no young American sympathizers to call their own. You seethe hipster, often blessed with the luxury of never having had to earna living in the real world (no, college is not the real world) is permanently perched in the peanut gallery, free to criticize othermore productive Americans. terrorists wouldn't want to kill us if we just left them alone and stopped being so arrogant

....Wedon't own the world!" These are all common beliefs of hipsters that can be overheard on aSunday stroll through NYC's East Village. -- Just be sure to avoid thetainted syringes.

-- If you were to ask the modern hipster, he" I meanshe" Sorry, IT is likely under the impression that Usama Bin Laden is wearing skinny jeans in his cave, currently listening to AnimalCollective as he throws back cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon.)

I wonder if they just make up this shit. They seem to just be stirring hatred up against a general, political spectrum and applying narrow stereotypes to anyone who holds those beliefs. Plus, I wonder why Fox News doesn't ever get Noam Chomsky on to speak, probably because he has a very good memory and would probably kick their asses in any topic they throw at him. They don't mind criticizing him when he's not there to defend himself though. I mean, I feel like some of this stuff could apply to me. I don't really like Pabst, but I drink Clear Creek, a union made beer. It tastes better than Budweiser, its cheap, and its union made. I'd rather buy that or Pabst than spend an excessive amount of money on the imported beers and vintage Champagnes that Fox News executives consume on a regular basis anyway.

I also hate Osama Bin Laden, nor would I assume him to be an alright guy just because he's not apart of the American, military industrial complex that oppresses the middle east. If anything, he's part of the problem and responsible for the unrest in the middle east as much as the neo-liberal agenda driving the foreign policy of United States government. Just because I feel that suspending due process for suspected terrorists violates the constitution, it doesn't mean that I like Osama Bin Laden. That's black and white thinking. Not everyone getting bombed in Afghanistan by predator drones is moustache twirling terrorist who's gonna blow their selves up out of hatred for America. That's a very one dimensional way of looking at the world.Yah, I don't think that America rules the world, but it is a very influential powerhouse, being that it, currently, has the most economic influence through the WTO and IMF. "terrorists wouldn't want to kill us if we just left them alone and stopped being so arrogant" Yah, I think that would be the solution to the problem. Its not a liberal delusion that America's been meddling in foreign affairs for the past 50 years. If China came in and overthrew our president, put an absolute monarch into power over us because he was in favour more with trading our mineral wealth with them than the president, I'd be pissed off too. (1954 the CIA overthrew democratically elected Mouhammad Mossadegh and restored the power of the Shah in Iran because Mossadegh and the people that elected him wanted to nationalize Iran's oil). Such actions are only going to give fuel to zealots in attacking us on our own soil. It doesn't justify or excuse terrorism either way, whether its Washington killing innocent people by staging unnecessary occupations and attacks or whether its coming from some nut case with a two way radio signal to god who thinks killing innocent people (that he's convinced are all evil) will send him to heaven. Ironically, none of the hijackers were Iranian or Iraqi. Most were from upper class, Saudi and Egyptian families, who are treated very well by the oil interests that direct foreign policy. However, they were aware of American politics in the region, felt like pan-Arabic/ pan-Islamic honour was being tarnished, and this was a major, contributing factor to the attack.

I don't do heroin either. I despise addictive drugs, prescribed or not. I'm not a junkie. I just have one beer every now and then (not enough to get me drunk) and spark a joint from time to time with friends. I mean, does the author not understand that there's a punk subculture that doesn't do any mind altering substances of any kind, otherwise known as straight edge, that could be classified as "hipster" as well?

Maybe the hipster label would apply to me, but its not really intentional on my part to fit that description. I just tend to gravitate to alternative culture that could be classified as "hipster". I'm a Buddhist, a fan of Werner Herzog films, read Satre, and practice a Pythagorian diet, so I think the stereotype may apply to me. However limiting one's life exclusively to starched suits, fulfilling one's duty of producing 2 1/2 kids, barbecues, mini-vans, climbing the corporate ladder, attending service at the Mormon Church on Sundays, paying taxes, fulfilling one's duty in consumer spending on Black Friday every year to boost the economy, and then dying, might appeal to some people, and that's fine. However it doesn't appeal to me. I don't wear undersized jeans though, nor has emo or scene music or Lady Gaga ever appealed to me either. I mean, I don't even know who the fuck Animal Collective is.
