Anybody been to Denmark?
Looks like I may be going this fall for a few days. What do I need to know? I already know it is the happiest country on earth.

1. a good friend from high school lives there and a friend recently visited -
all I know is that Copenhagen is very expensive, and that you can rent bikes and go everywhere in the city. I think they also have great museums and restaurants. I also know it is very easy to get to other countries by train, but you have to book in advance for holidays.

Maybe a Rough Guide or Planet Guide might be the way to go? I seem to remember reading a good analysis of how to visit Copenhagen for cheap.. Hope you have fun!

2. The Rick Steves guidebooks are great for first-time visitors, and the
Insight Guides are a lot of fun to read and full of beautiful photos.

Wherever you go, a guidebook is your best source of practical information.

I was in Copenhagen for a few days with my parents when I was in high school (a LONG time ago). As a kid, I was most impressed with Tivoli Park (tame compared to U.S. theme parks, but still fun) and the elaborate sandwiches that people eat for lunch. Also, most Danes speak English very well, but they appreciate it if you try using a few words of Danish.

I'm aiming for another trip to Scandinavia next summer.

4. Been a long, long time
Don't be surprised to see a sex shop on every block. And yes, it is very, very expensive in Copenhagen.

and I've seen pictures and my parents loved it. Sorry I'm no help at all but thought I'd kick this for you.

7. Back in the 80's.
I happened to be there for the Folk og Land Fest. That was pretty neat. I think it was late Summer or early Autumn.

In fact I just finished a photo video from my travels in the early 80's, which includes Denmark. Though I'm sure it's much dated. http://veloroo.blogspot.com/2010/08/wandering-europa.html

I met a Canadian (or maybe american) girl who thought people there were unfriendly. Every time she walked into a shop, the shop keepers would say "Get out". Then she discovered that's how their pronunciation of "God Dag" sounded.

8. Best pastry shops on the planet
I was there on a bumming around Europe trip back in my college days. The pastry shops are even more spectacular that those in France, if you can believe it.
