Heidelberg Schloss (pictures - dial-up warning)
Heidelberg Castle: seat of government for the Electoral Palatinate. Begun as a fortress around 1300, expanded with various architectural styles - with Renaissance palaces and gardens.

1. Awesome, awesome.
Thanks!

I lived in Heidelberg for about four years. You used to be able to see the Schloss from the Hauptstrasse, but I guess not anymore from what I heard.

I always loved that guy lazing in the pool.

7. Which direction?
Schwetzingen has a rather impressive castle, though not on a hill.

It has this fellow, Pan, who was another one of my favorites.

12. Thx!
Some of the best concerts I saw were in Mannheim -- Yes, ZZ Top.

I think I did that walk a couple of times. They have a show at the castle about the prince, you know what I'm talking about, the Passion Play? It's every ten years or something. We did it then.

Thanks very much for posting these. Heidelberg an amazing place.

6. Stone path
If you follow this stone path that is to the left of the schloss (but still in the courtyard) you will walk down a very steep hill that goes into town. It is a short walk...but it's not a walk for everyone.

14. If I didn't live here already I couldn't afford to travel to some of the places I've been.
I'm trying to make the most of it. I've been very fortunate and I'm very grateful for the opportunity I've received.

I hope you get the chance one day. I really do.

19. Me too!
I walked the stone path and thought about all the people who walked the same way for several hundred years. I try to imagine the times that came before...

21. So that's what I missed,
I bike trekked through Heidelberg on my way south to Basel. Twice people stopped me to ask local directions. I must have that Heidelberg-look sans duelling scar.
