7. My visit is quite a story in itself.

I boarded the boat-train for Calais and Paris with practically no money. I was away from London, which was the only place I could cash American checks, and I was penniless, p-less, et sans un sou (or however the French say it). I got to Paris too late to visit Pere Lachaise Cemetery. It had closed for the night. So I went back to the train station and hung out with the backpackers for the night. No phone, no light, no motorcar, not a single luxury. Next morning, I hoofed it over to the cemetery, paid my respects,and got back on the train to Calais and London. I had spent less than twenty-four hours in Paris, didn't see the Eiffel Tower, didn't eat a thing, and only drank some Coke from a French Burger King. Only thing I saw was a small, grafitti-covered grave. Strange days, huh?

"No sex threads". You may have heard of it. Significantly reduces the number of my adventures that I can talk about. :)

I did once get a speeding ticket in Muleshoe, Texas in the middle of the night. It was the weekend before finals my freshman year of college. We were sitting in IHOP and "Amarillo by Morning" came on the radio. Gave me and my friends gypsy feet but we ended up in Cloudcroft, NM instead of Amarillo. One of my friends had an uncle with a cabin there and he SWORE he knew where the key was. He didn't. *snort* We ended up sleeping in the back of my parents' van (They had brought it up that weekend and traded cars with me. I needed the van to bring all my crap back home for the summer.) I ended up "stealing" my guy best friend's sorta-ex-boyfriend that weekend...but in my defense he didn't tell me beforehand that they had been involved.

All in all a pretty surreal experience.

Now, I can't confirm that this is true, because I don't remember all the details. But....

1982. At the time, I was a musician of some local renown. I looked the part, and dressed the part. I was quite the man about town.

I had a lot of friends who went to NIU, which is of course in DeKalb, IL, which is the hometown of Cindy Crawford.

So one weekend, I hopped in a car with a couple of pals and made the hour long trip to DeKalb, where we attended a rather large party. there must've been at least 100 students and locals in attendance. At the time, I had quite a presence. Like I said, I was in a pretty well known act at the time and here I was at a college party in DeKalb. I don't know if it was my jet black hair, or my make-up, or my clothes but you could definitely tell I wasn't one of the local farmboys. (Now I just look like some middle-aged suburban dad and nobody would look twice at me.)

This is where my friend's story begins and my story ends, cause I just don't remember this, but there was this beautiful girl at the party. And she just would not leave me alone.....so my friend claims. I can only guess that I had my eye on someone else, or that I just figured that this girl was too young, or maybe I was really high....which wouldn't have been unusual for me at the time.....but my friend, who is still a good friend of mine to this day....swears that it was Cindy.

So there ya go. I blew my big chance. Although, I'm pretty sure that in 1982, Cindy would not have been 18 yet.

My pal likes to remind me of this every now and then, but honestly, I just don't remember.

14. Actually it was just the opposite...

A lot of the "popular-but-stupid" kids in 4th or 5th grade were talking big about themselves and girls and everything they knew about them and sex, and one of them said something along the lines of once you have to make sure to bob up and down when you put your penis in a woman because otherwise she dies - all of the other guys took it as fact. That sounded weird and a little scary, but being the class brain, after school I walked to the town library and started looking up sex in all the encyclopedias as well as looking for related materials with the card catalog and spent about two hours teaching myself about the birds and the bees.

But just to be sure, with my first girlfriend I did just stick it in and do nothing until she got upset. Just kidding.
