I wish I could get tacos at 9am
I really don't care for traditional breakfast type food. When I was a kid I would go through the fridge in the morning and take out left-overs from dinner the night before. Lasagna, fried chicken, seafood, tacos, meatloaf, pizza, and casseroles all sound like my idea of breakfast.

Fortunately, now that I'm out on the road most the time, I can get lunch and dinner type food 24/7. Unfortunately, it's truck stop food. :dilemma:

1. I'm the same way.

I don't like breakfast foods. I typically eat pasta for breakfast or leftovers. (Cold pizza and cold Chipotle burrito are the best breakfast foods.) When I brunch, I order french toast because it's not sweet. Except...lately every place I go has been putting powdered sugar on it. I just want a savory breakfast.

I feel you on the tacos, man. I could go for a nice jalapeno-corn-and-bean tamale with some pico de gallo too.

Edit: Oddly, I love hot cereal for dessert.

3. There's at least 5000 places in Austin where you can get breakfast tacos.

Several are with a block or so of the Interstate.

4. Breakfast tacos can be very very good...
.
.
.
.
...but they are just that -- breakfast foods wrapped up in a tortilla.
.
.
.
.
The whole POINT of wanting tacos at 9 AM is wanting NON-breakfast foods in the early morning.
.
.
.
.
The whole cold pizza, reheated pasta thing.
.
.
.
.
Taco Bell (how it thrives in Tucson, I'll never figger out) has breakfast tacos everywhere now.
.

7. Not if you order a nopalito, jalapeno, and al pastor with queso.
Which is easily available at my local stand.

12. exactly!
Austin takes the concept of the breakfast taco to a whole new level. The spice can wake you up faster than coffee and leave you feeling full for most of the day.

10. I make breakfast tacos...
and yes, they do have eggs... but also hot, spicy Chorizo sausage diced up, peppers, pepper jack cheese, sour cream, and taco sauce!

Great hangover cure incidentally...B-)

15. ANy respectable breakfast taco place in Austin lets you build your own.
You can get your taco as lunch-esque as you want it.

5. No can do here in Dayton, Ohio
There might be a few places that serve that type of food in the morning, but I am unaware of them. I might actually have to break down and go to the grovery store. :(

Actually, if I wait another hour and a half or so, I'll be able to get my tacos. The restaurants around here generally open at 11am for lunch.

14. I've eaten breakfast in Ohio...
:( Sympathies. One the other hand, you could go to Office Depot and get some paste. You'd never know the difference.

6. Any chance you could find someone who make a good breakfast wrap? Almost as good
Squatter's in Salt Lake makes a great one. Tortilla wrapped around scrambled eggs, cheese, red peppers, and some kind of sausage that is fantastic. Maybe you can find someplace that can do something similar.

Not quite a taco, but pretty good nonetheless.

Good luck!

9. I hear you!
breakfast - bleh
give me regular food! And unless I am working all day, I would rather have it a few hours after I get up - very hard for me to leap out of bed and eat. Don't know how people do that.

11. You need to make more runs to California and the Southwest
just about anywhere between SF and Houston will do nicely for this purpose.

In the interior, Denver is well-reputed for its Mexican cuisine.

16. Count me in
as a breakfast taco eating girl.

It's a good thing I don't live near any place like that. They'd know my name I'd be there so often.

17. No little cheesy hole-in-the-wall taco shops near the truck stops?
The ones that are run by an extended family and all the locals go to? They should have the fixings for the real tacos ready at 9am.

18. You can. You just have to know the secret password.
It's either 'Yo queiro Taco Bell' or 'EXCELSIOR!'.
Sorry, I forget which.
:-)
