1. I've got just about the best in-laws on the planet.

They're both left wingers. They hung around with a lot of socialists and communists when they were in college, back in the early 1950s. When they started the Freedom of Information Act, my father-in-law was heartbroken that he wasn't on the Red Watch List and the FBI didn't have a file on him.

2. Mine used to live in Albuquerque.

So I could visit them, and while there I could just head off exploring and not have to be around them. They liked it, I liked it... Is that what you're looking for? :)

3. My father in law --and his 4th wife who managed to get him to change his will

to disinherit his only son (hubby)-- are both dead.

That's what I call good.

And on the other side of that coin, the estate that was divided
between hubby's two sisters?--well, one of the sisters gave
hubby what would have been his--should have been his--from her share
if the 4th wife hadn't messed up the will.

That's what I call really good.

And what the 4th wife did? That's evil.

4. One of many.

A year after I was married, my father-in-law told me if I didn't start acting like a good wife who knows her place, he could drive to the res and have me taken out for $25.

5. We live 3,000 miles from ours

He likes my mom; she likes him.

His parents are nice enough, but difficult to around for long; they're typical small-world suburbanites who say some truly awful things without realizing just what they've said.

6. I'm so sorry for everyone who has trouble with their in-laws.

The problem seems more pervasive than I realized.

7. I like my MIL

We don't see her often, as she lives in Florida and we don't often have the money to go visit (she doesn't like to travel), but when we have spent time together, she and I bond, because Mr. MG and his sister are both repubs. My MIL has often lamented, "How did they GET this way? I didn't teach them that!"

8. I like my in-laws and Mr. Brickbat likes my parents. We both came from stable, loving families with

similar values and we generally all get along quite well. Mr. Brickbat and I are also able to gently tease each other about our parents ("Your mom is doing X again!"), and not have it be a big deal. I've hung out with his mom on occasion and he's comfortable spending an afternoon with my dad.

9. One of my brothers-in-law is a very nice man.

He's calm, centered and a nice guy.

And he might be the only guy on earth who can put-up with my sister. I love her but I must admit, she's a pill. But he understands and her moods just roll off him.

We go shooting together. Great guy.
