What was your weirdest recurring childhood dream?
I was about three years old. I was in the dining room. On the ceiling was the light fixture, shaped in a figure eight with two sockets for light bulbs, but with only one bulb in it. It always made me think of the Cyclops, from the movie.

My big brother was sitting at the dining room table coloring something, or doing something that was utterly fascinating to me. I wanted to see what so I pestered him to let me up into the chair next to him. He resisted me and got quite nasty.

All of a sudden the Cyclops on the ceiling came to life. It began swirling around the room, coming closer and closer to me. It then swooped down and bit off my entire "dodo" (childhood name for buttocks). It stung and burned like it was on fire! I run screaming and crying to my mother in the kitchen, who was sitting at the kitchen table, smoking a cigarette and drinking coffee with her friend from up the street, Mrs. Gornick.

She seemed utterly nonplussed with my tragic fate, and continued chatting and smoking her cigarette, while swirling me around with her free hand, in an attempt to cool down my burning dodo.

I had this exact same dream many times over the ensuing 20-30 years. Luckily, I have not had it in years.

Am I alone? Or have you had a strange recurring dream in your childhood that you have been reluctant to share?

1. First semester at University...
I register for all my classes, and then somehow forget until the end of semester that I am going to school. So at the end of the semester, in a panic, I have to go in to see each of my professors and beg them to let me make up the class somehow.

All of the profs agree to work with me, except the last one, who refuses. That last professor is Fred MacMurray...always.

5. A baby jumping out of the toilet when I flushed it
Shit, I musta been 9 or 10 before I could flush the commode without dashing for the door.

The other one was animated numbers and letters trying to kill each other.

Dang, I see a weird dream coming tonight :scared:

:hi:

8. OMIGOD!
OMIGOD!
OMIGOD!
OMIGOD!

I think I had the same dream about the violent numbers and letters. They massacred each other - no victors. I wonder what it means. I don't even want to think about that baby-flushing deal! I hope you sleep well tonight!

6. Being chased by a bear or lion.
I would run like crazy for the front door of our house. I would scream but no sound came out. Then I would wake up, all frightened and panting like it really happened.

7. Being chased around by a huge light...
It chased me in fields, in buildings, the air and over the water.

I had these dreams for about 3 years when I was 2 to 5 years old.

9. You have to have been alive in the '50s to relate to this-
I'm on the Mickey Mouse Club show. It's "Talent Day", I've just finished singing my song or doing my dance or whatever. Annette is just about to give me a pair of mouse ears. I look down and realize I'm not wearing any pants. I'd wake up in a sweat every time!

10. For about two years I had a dream about one of my elementay teachers.
Her name was Ms. Gross. I liked her a lot so I'm not sure why I had nightmares about her. She must have been Nazarine because she wore very long skirts and always had her hair up in a bun. She had large teeth.

My dream:

We would be leaving school for the day, and I would realize that I forgot my lunchbox. I would tell my sister to go ahead and walk home I would catch up.

When I would go back into the school it would be strangely empty. I would walk up the steps and turn right into my classroom and Ms. Gross would be there hoovering over my friend Robby with blood all over her face. Robby was dead with a huge hole in his neck. I would start running and she would chase me all over the school until I would wake up.

I had this dreams several times when I was a kid, but Ms. Gross was still one of my favorite teachers.

12. I've had several wonderful teachers over the years
But none of them were FLESH EATING GHOULS!!!

I'm sorry, but 10-to-one, Ms. Gross is spending the rest of her days in the state psychiatric hospital. I'm so happy you were able to survive unscathed. You are very courageous.

15. I had a Miss Gross for a teacher when I was in second grade. She was quite beautiful.
At least, to a second-grader. Long reddish kind of hair from what I remember, and quite young - she got married the year she was my teacher. I think her name became Barfknecht after the marriage.

and my mother sprinkled some kind of powder on it. It turned out that the powder was actually flower seeds, and I eventually had flowers growing out of my arm. I had that damn dream all the time.

25.  I had a few dreams in the junior high/high school years
wherein my legs developed a strange skin condition characterized by welts that looked like pecan halves. It was terrifying. The nut leg dream.

I'm guessing your flower arm dream created a similar feeling in you.

14. I often had dreams of my penis falling off in my hand while I was peeing
Had those from being a very young child until maybe early high school.

In my adult years, the dream has switched to teeth falling out.

17. I had my tonsils out when I was about three and remember it
all the way up to where I told the nurse that the anesthetic smells like alcohol. After that, I had a recurring dream about surgery until I was in my late teens. I didn't speak English at the time and it's funny because in the dream, there is no talking.

18. When I was about four years old, I used to have a dream
about a giant rabbit. We lived in a trailer in a large field. It was a pretty area. The giant rabbit would hop and hop all around the outside of the trailer. I would be trapped inside with my mom and my little brother. In the dream, my mom would be quite frightened by the giant rabbit.

It's stupid, but it used to scare me a lot.

20. Dreamed of tornadoes a lot. Once I dreamed that I had sprouts shooting out of me like a potato -
Edited on Fri Sep-10-10 11:52 PM by Skip Intro

they were shooting out of my back, I could feel the way they felt being pressed against my tshirt. It was so real. So weird.

The tornado dreams were mostly late teens, early 20s. But very, very frequent.

Also dreamed about crossing crazy bridges behind the wheel of cars I had lost control of, just speeding like crazy, swerving out of control.

Can't really remember the nice, happy childhood dreams, but I'm sure I had them.

A few months ago I began taking Celexa (generic for it, actually) and my dreams have been wild and vivid. Last night I was hunkered down in some building while some giant, talking bug that was twenty stories left a path of destruction though the nearby town. I can't wait sometimes to go to bed these days to see what will come up. It's almost like watching a movie.

22. My wife's grandmother grew up in Cuba in the early 20th Century
She lived through and told of the most horrific nightmare come real when a hurricane tore through Havana. Her sister became mute from screaming for witnessing the death and destruction. One cannot imagine the horrible sights she saw. It was not a dream, it was real.

No matter how awful our nightmares are, it is consoling to realize that they are only dreams, not real. It is sad beyond belief, however, to realize that our worst nightmares have become reality for some of our brothers and sisters around the world. Tomorrow it may happen to us. That's why we must reach out and care for those who need us.

23. This question is so relevent to me today, on 9/11....
Not childhood dreams, but weird:
For many years I had frequent recurring dreams of witnessing plane crashes. Sometimes they would crash into an overpass when I was on the highway, sometimes two planes crashing into each other on a runway or in the air, sometimes into buildings. (yes) I learned to wake myself up with the first hint of a plane. But they became very sneaky. It came to the point that even during pleasant dreams, if there was a plane in it, no matter how insignificant it seemed, it would crash or explode in the air, even if the plane was just a contrail led by a tiny pinpoint of light in the sky. (I'm not particularly afraid of flying, BTW.)

But here's the weird part, and the god's honest truth. -- I have not had a plane crash dream since 9/11/01. I don't claim that my dreams were premonitions at all. I think that I, like all of us, witnessed a reality that was worse than any nightmare of our subconscious imaginings.

24. I've had the same recurring childhood nightmare well into adulthood
I was about 5 or 6 and was standing in our family's backyard wearing my favorite Sunday dress and eating a cookie. Suddenly out of nowhere 2 huge dogs appeared, got on either side of me and began growling ominously. I remember being paralyzed w/fright and the standoff felt like forever.

Finally, I saw my mother who was on the phone peer out the the kitchen window at me. I began yelling for help (though I knew she couldn't hear me) and gesturing, trying to get her to see the 2 dogs and how much danger I was in. She however appeared to be oblivious of it. She just smiled and waved and then went away allowing the kitchen curtain to fall back into it's place. I was alone again w/the dogs which by then were beginning to make lunging movements toward me.

That's how the dream would always end until sometime in my late 20's or early 30's when I dropped the cookie at which point the two dogs began fighting w/each other over it allowing me enough time to run away. I haven't had that dream since the new ending some 10 years ago.

26. I have a recurring one about being strapped to a gurney...
and wheeled through the corridors of a mostly abandoned hospital at sprint speeds. I can sense a crew of medical professionals around me but I can't see above the shoulders let alone heads or faces. (They seem demonic but only faintly malevolent) There's a commotion going on. The suddenly I awake at some random point, always with the sensation of a rapid deceleration upon awakening. I always feel like I'm just about to go flying right off the end of the bed and across the room.

I've had it at-least monthly since I almost lost my left (dominant) arm in a childhood accident at about age 5. The abandoned hospital is the same hospital I was taken to and it's very much not abandoned in reality. The only recollection I have of the actual injury incident is that I was wheeled down the same corridors as I had to have the surgery to save my arm and stitch up the wound under local and strapped to a papoose board (because I wouldn't stop screaming and freaking out) because I awoke within 60 seconds of administration of general and the anesthetist said they couldn't administer a second dose.
