I wish the D.O.T. would quit picking on me

I hadn't been inspected in 4 years before I started my new gig. I've now been inspected twice in the last 2 months, once in Montana and once in Utah. I think the reason for that is the multiple hazmat placards stuck all over my truck. I guess that probably throws up a red flag for some weigh station inspectors.

This guy in Utah was strange. Usually, when you talk to inspectors they are all business. No nicey-poo talk. That's the way I like it. This ain't no fuckin bar or social club. But this dude was inspecting me and acting like I was his buddy or something. Fuck that noise! It was starting to piss me off. "I'm Mr. Nice Guy. Let me show you some pictures of my kids. Oh, btw, you're 30 minutes over on your log book. Here's a ticket and you'll have to spend the next 10 hours here before you can leave. Oh, here's my wife. Why thank you. She is beautiful, isn't she?"

That's not how it went, but it had the same feel to it.

I didn't have any violations on either inspection. Just call me goody-two-shoes.

I guess he could have just been bored and lonely. It probably gets kind of dull watching trucks roll by your window at 10 mph for 8 hours. "Damn, I could use someone to talk to. I know! I'll pull one of these assholes in and do an inspection. That's the ticket!"

It just seemed really inappropriate to me. If he had just been some dude in a bar or a truck stop or something, I might have enjoyed talking to him. But this dude is a D.O.T. cop. I really don't want to get too friendly with those guys.
