He's done more good work than any living actor I can think of.

My personal favorite re-re-re-re-rewatchable is "Unforgiven";
just an utterly perfect DECONSTRUCTION of the entire "Western" genre.
And a damn fine film in its own right.

He might be my favorite actor of all time, as well...

5. I found Gran Torino kind of forced and ham-fisted in places

The process of establishing him as a crotchety, bigoted old veteran was too heavy-handed and followed exactly the arc that any first-year screenwriter would have written. There were good moments, but some of the dialogue was so bad that I was embarrassed to be watching it.


However, the ending was terrific, especially because Clint's own film history made the viewer expect an entirely different outcome.

7. Maybe I know too many crotchety bigoted old men. I could relate

to his character completely and I was really impressed with Gran Torino. I didn't expect to like it, it didn't sound like the sort of movie I would like, but I was blown away. And speaking of blown away, you hit the nail on the head about the ending. More unexpected because of what we have seen of Eastwood in the past. I couldn't believe that I was crying at the end.

6. Aside from his acting talents I like him as a person as much as any other celeb.

He has always seemed genuine and humble and grateful.

I like the guy a lot as a person. That's for sure.

It will be a sad day when he goes.

20. He's phasic

From the late 60s to the mid 70s, he makes some really good movies.

Then come the "Sondra Locke" years -- he makes some pretty crappy movies. There are notable exceptions.Also, he's Mayor of Carmel during this time.

Then Sondra goes her own way. His movies rapidly improve.

He's not my fave, but he's been a great, both in front of the camera and behind it (Letters From Iwo Jima is top notch).
