Damn. HUGE spider on my ceiling.
I don't want to kill it, and I can't catch it safely.

So I'm sitting here talking to it.

I named it Timmy.

10. We have a HUGE spider living in one of our windows...
There is a pile of insect exoskeletons at the mouth
of her "house".

My kids named her "Mom".

11. Keep in mind - the larger the spider, the bigger evil nasty bugs it kills for you.
Spiders are your friends. The only ones that are a serious problem are those black ones with the front section much larger than the back that look like they have big green or blue fangs (those aren't fangs, just coloring). They'll leave a trail of welts on your back at night. I catch them and put them outside.

12. Don't worry.
Every book I've read says that they don't crawl in your ear and lay their eggs in your brain, very often.

21. Looks like either a wolfie(wolf spider), a fishing spider, or nursery web spider.
http://www.spiderzrule.com/commonspidersusa.htm

I don't think it is a wolfie, though, because wolfies don't build webs and you don't normally see them on the ceiling. It looks like one though.

22. Reminds me of the Clock Spider a.k.a. Huntsman Spider, prevalent in Australia.
Just another reason to not visit Australia.

14. Timmy... love it. I'll call this guy Manuel (in honor of 19th Ave. Manuel)
Discovered into this guy jaywalking while out walking the dog night before last... (yes, he's a he - from what I've read, the females don't have the "blonde" carapace)...

What an amazing creature. Got a bit dramatic when the dog's leash broke because he *really* wanted to eat this marvelous fuzzball. Elderly lab, but a serious prey drive... he's caught 2 birds (in mid-flight).

Spiders are fascinating, but I have a serious aversion to fire ants, scorpions and ticks (the latter: the devil incarnate in my view) : )
Running into this *very big* treasure was a real treat... little scary, but a treat nonetheless.

Was your house guest a wolf spider? Related to tarantulas (I think) they get very big, too)
