1. We used to make the best berry ales ever... |
|
at Jack Russell brewery in Camino. Not overpowering in fruitiness. Organic too.
New owners now so I don't think they are going to do that anymore.
But I think el Dorado brewery is going to do sme more of that I think.

4. Used to go to a local brewery |
|
when I lived in the states that made a wonderful berry based micro-brew. Not sweet at all but you could see, smell and taste a hint of the berries. Good stuff.

5. First instinct is nay, but if I trusted the brewery I might give it a try. |
|
Seems to me that it depends on how they do it. If the raspberry is part of the brewing somehow, it might be interesting. If it's raspberry flavoring squirted into an otherwise normal ale, I'm disinclined to acquiesce to their marketing.
I had a green chili beer once in Taos. Most of my culinary life since then has been centered around removing that memory from my soul.

6. The best beer I've ever had in my life was from Eddie McStiff's microbrewery in Moab, UT... |
|
. . . . . . ...and it was a blueberry pilsner. You couldn't taste the blueberries, but it was an AMAZINGLY clean and fresh beer. . . . Their blueberry stout? . . . Meh. . . .

8. Try the Rubinator at McMenamins pubs. |
|
A mix of their "Ruby" red ale, and their "Terminator" chocolate stout. You'll have to ask for it by name.
I don't usually go for raspberry ales. Or chocolate ales.
Or for that matter, mixing two different fucking beers together. What the fuck is this? Wine?
But anyhoo- that shit's pretty damn tasty if you don't mind compromising all your morals.

9. A thousand times "nay!" |
|
Fruit ales are better than no ale, I suppose, but I've yet to taste one that I'd seek out if anything else was available...

Grain + water +yeast + hops = beer or ale or malt liquor
Fruit does not enter that equation anywhere
